Only reason I would consider it is if we had a follow up trade in the works with one of Escobar, or Johnson to be traded for a SP or 1b.
Other then that it doesn't really make much sense. I'de say Hanley is likely to produce 1-1.5 more WAR then Yunel or KJ. For the amount of prospects it would take to get him, we could probably turn that into a SP that could produce 3-4 more WAR then the pitcher he replaces. Ditto 1b. You could probably get a great 1b for that same amount of prospects which would be a big upgrade over Lind.

I agree with your overall point but I don't see Hanely being a 5.4-5.9 WAR type player in future years. Sure he was in the past but I don't see him repeating.

hanley is a left fielder waiting to happen.
If he would agree to the position change, id gut the farm for him.
.....hmm considering the marlins off season, i doubt they would want prospects in return, so its a bit of a mute point.

Paying for a SS full price then converting him to a LF loses a lot of value... and comes with some risk. I bet sending the equivalent prospect package required for Hanely would get us a LFer with a better bat.
Its like trading for a catcher then making him a 1B. Its utterly useless. I would never convert a talented player to an easier position. If it was vica versa, ala moving Lawrie back to catcher, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Imagine Lawrie playing C? Instant all-star.
