What's your reaction now that the Jays haven't won the post?

Moderator: JaysRule15

What will your reaction be with the Blue Jays don't win the Yu Darvish posting?

I'll be happy. We shouldn't be spending that much money on an unknown player.

The media is saying that if Rogers had the money to post, it should have the money to do other things. AA has to do something to appease the fans, and while that's not a great thought, it's almost obligatory now. I'm dreading what it will take in prospects to get Garza or Gonzales. I've been reading the media this morning and the pressure to do something is there and if not released, will impact ticket sales and the television audience. I think Eric Koreen summarized what a lot of fans are thinking.

I'm over Yu. Just don't make me watch another year of Adam Lind batting cleanup.

And things could get worse for AA. If he makes a trade for a pitching upgrade that requires us to surrender top 5 prospects, I'll lose respect for him. And if Baltimore goes all in for Fielder as Boras is forced to lower his demands, all hell will break lose around here because even casual fans will understand that we're a fourth or fifth place team for years to come.

The Jays have not had an overly productive off-season. Right now, we've gained (Santos) and that's it. The CBA was a kick in the teeth. The other small deals mean nothing to the big picture.

However, two more American League teams have become big spenders, and the odds of making the playoffs any time soon got slightly smaller.

Well said.

It is our year to do some damage in the market and we are currently pissing the bed unfortunately.

Solid at best? 1.78 career ERA and he's been pitching since he was 19 years old. This is a level better than AAA, FYI. 1.44 ERA and 276/36 K/BB last season. Nobody in MLB is even close to those numbers. I think you meant to say, "he pitched against inferior competition, so the mind-blowing numbers need to be adjusted".

Even if we ignore marketability (which is a significant portion of the investment), it's fairly easy to envision a scenario that he'll be worth more than $120M over the next 6 years on talent alone. And there's simply nobody else available that has Darvish's upside. That has to be taken into account. In a market where Mark Buehrle gets $15M/yr it's not hard to justify spending $20M/yr on a player that is 7 years younger and has much more talent. It's not a surprise to see people try to convince themselves it's a good thing we didn't get him, though.

Yeah I'll be honest I wasn't too up-to-date on his stats those are impressive but u basically figured out what I meant by saying those numbers won't translate over here. You know, we heard the same things about all the other Japanese players coming over and I cant really think of anybody really living up to the hype except for Ichiro, maybe Matsui or Nomo for a short period. Financially, your're prolly right as well but I dont really care that much about that aspect of it. I'm not trying to make myself feel good, I really do. I feel like we would have overspent just like the Marlins waaaay over spent on hurley beurhle. To me the little things like cultural differences, new pressures, new atmosphere, mentality ,etc all these things affect a players psyche. I'm glad we didnt get him, for now, and Ill be extremely pissed if we dont get Fielder
