OT: Bailey traded to Red Sox (espn)

Post#1 » by SharoneWright » Wed Dec 28, 2011 10:32 pm

Sources: Andrew Bailey sent to Boston

The Boston Red Sox have acquired Oakland closer Andrew Bailey and outfielder Ryan Sweeney in a trade that sends outfielder Josh Reddick to the Athletics, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

To complete the deal, the Red Sox will also send third baseman Miles Head, 20, and 19-year-old pitcher Raul Alcantera to Oakland, according to sources.

Wow! Great way for newbie Ben Cherrington to pop his cherry. As much as the three prospects from Boston have some promise, the likelihood they'll do make major contributions at the MLB level is virtually slim. If anything, I think this could very well be an upgrade for Boston from Papelbon and for a fraction of the cost.

yeah I don't know about upgrade but damn good deal for Sox. Neither of those specs have played above A ball. Man surprised AA wasn't all over this.

Decent deal for the Sox. Now with the additions of Bailey and Melancon the Sox bullpen looks pretty damn good. And Sweeney's great defensively plus he's a okay hitter, can't hit lefties to save his life but he's decent against righties.

Good trade for the Sox. Wonder if trading away Reddick will be too much.
