Even if its minor it still strengthens our rotation. Imagine it as a tryout and we are just recruiting guys who know how to throw a ball. The more guys we get, the bigger talent pool to draw from.
Last year the Yankees did this and it worked out great for them. Bartolo Colon ended up pitching 164 solid innings for them.
Not saying Laffey will likely ever make the rotation but worse case scenario its like another Parez.

Re: Blue Jays sign Aaron Laffey
They needed another 2-3 arms to play at AAA LV they signed a AAA guy to pitch in LV are we really using this as an example of Rogers cheapness????? Unless you would rather have our top prospects pitching in LV? The organization has over 200 players playing on 8 teams playing in USA/CAN and another in the Dominican not every move is for the major league team. They need to field a competitive team in AAA so they can try to move when their contract is up no AAA franchise what's to sign up with a team that shows no commitment to winning at the AAA level.

This isn't sarcasm. We're stoked that Rogers is finally committed to building a winning team.

Totally! Last season we might not have had many posters, but at least it was proper discussion. These days every thread gets railroaded from the first post.
I'm dissapointed that Rogers won't spend money on the club, but at the same time I'd still like to discuss the team.
Can we not create an official "We hate Rogers thread" so people can vent there?

No the QQ about rogers is in page of every thread on the forum. Unless you set the fair weather fans to ignore then its rather nice.

Ya its getting kinda sad. Laffeys nothing more than training camp fodder and an arm for Vegas, there's no reason to get upset about this.

It's not only the fairweather fans that are upset. Some of us have been waiting about 18 years now for this team to get its **** together, and when it looks like we're on the cusp of something good management (Rogers) decides that a thrifty payroll is all that matters.
I admire the optimism that some of the posters here have for our young prospects, but at this rate this team is going to be nothing more than a farm team for the rest of the league until they decide to sign some good free agents.
But hey lets all look forward to those comp picks guys! ...

The ironic thing is that the big fans are actually going to need the fairweather fans to start paying attention and buying tickets if Rogers is ever going to significantly increase the payroll to something more in line with Toronto's market.

I can see how this theory operates in two ways:
1. The more a team cuts its budget, the more it draws fans to the park because they identify with their lunchbucket playerr, as opposed to the Fielders and Darvishes on the other team. An intriguing marketing strategy in an era of open class warfare. The team could change its name to "The 99%ers".
2. The more a team cuts its budget, the better it performs in the long run by keeping its powder dry for some mythical future when its ready to compete, albeit with reduced contribution from its aging former best hitter in baseball.
Let's just say that either of these propositions are as credible and scientifically proven as the Laffer curve.

Either real fans come out of the wood work, fairweather fans get off their butts, or go bc blue jays.

What guarantee do fairweather fans have that Rogers won't screw them over and still not spend even after attendance increases? Rogers is notorious for screwing people over.
Look at the approach that the Marlins are taking. Spend now with the expectation that fans will show up to see a winning team. That's how it's supposed to work. If ownership shows a commitment to winning, the fairweather fans will be out in full force.
