If I was AA I would have wanted him on a 1 year deal. The deal is reportedly worth 8-12 million dollars.
Thoughts?

He went to the National league on a one year deal. He was going to sign with a team with a big ballpark and preferably the NL as he won't need to face a DH. This will hopefully help drive up his value next year. Good strategy.

The Jays were never going to be a player on this one.

Good observation. Since it's a 1 yr deal it is only logical they would pick the best situation for Edwin. Plop him in the AL East for a season? Don't think so.

What if the Jays offered him 18 million for that season?

Things would change. Fans would also call in asking for AA's head. The honeymoon would really be over then.

"Jackson turned down a three-year, $30MM offer to sign his one-year deal with Washington"

Guessing Baltimore gave him that offer?

Fans wouldn't revolt over a 1 year deal.

You say that, but they'd be saying what in the hell is AA doing?! Or something along the lines of "AA can't spend $10 M on player A, but he spends $18M on Edwin Jackson?!?" You'd also get a lot of criticism from GM's around the league as you've just driven the price of pitchers wayyyyyyyy up.

I'd be willing to bet fans would have actually been excited the Jays signed someone for a lot of money, no matter who it was. no one would have complained about a 1 year deal.
