Rocket and Bonds on Jays' horizon
By Richard Griffin
On the other hand, Clemens is all about the drama. The Saturday game in Boston will be televised on the Fox network as the game of the week. The start time is familiar and advantageous for the savvy Rocket, a 3:55 p.m. first pitch.
Jays fans will recall that in 1997, for his return to Fenway Park after leaving the Boston organization as a free agent because of general manager Dan Duquette, Jays manager Cito Gaston gave Clemens a choice of starts at Fenway coming out of the all-star break. He chose the late-afternoon Saturday start with its shifting shadows and the glare of the sun reflecting off the crowd, using it to his advantage to make the Red Sox batters look silly.
Fun for all except Jays' Ohka
By Mark Zwolinksi
"Tomo will pitch Saturday and we'll see how the rotation feels from there. I'd like to say (Ohka will pitch on May 31 as well), but I don't want to get ahead of myself. Every time I do that, someone gets hurt."
Vernon Wells and Alex Rios dominated the pre-game homer contest, thrilling the fans with numerous long balls and some ad-libbing in the batter's box when the contest came down to a sudden-death playoff between them.
Wells, who won the contest, and Rios squared off in a playoff round with Baltimore slugger Jay Gibbons after each hit six homers in 10 at-bats.

Jays Cooperstown visit short 'n sweet

"A few months ago we saw tickets were still available and thought we'd make the drive," Forbes said. Forbes enjoyed seeing the bronze plaques in the Hall of Fame especially his favourite player, the late Roberto Clemente. Curley's favorite was the Sacred Ground exhibit, a tribute to stadia across North America.
They brought their 10-month-old daughter Adelaide wearing a Blue Jays dress to see her first "major-league game."
Fifteen years from now Adelaide will re-tell the story of how she was there the day Balbino Fuenmayor hit his first homer off a pitcher wearing a major-league uniform.
Rotating rotation has Ohka back in
By Bob Elliott
Right-hander Tomo Ohka will return to the Blue Jays rotation Saturday night in Minneapolis.
He'd rather face the Minnesota Twins at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome rather than go against the Baltimore Orioles at Doubleday Field, as he did yesterday.
Ohka, who was dropped from the rotation on May 14, worked two innings yesterday allowing six hits and three runs.
"He'll pitch Saturday,'' manager John Gibbons said.
"And then we'll see what happens when Roy Halladay comes back."
Silver lining follows Jays
By Ken Fidlin
It's just under $90 million but about $6.5 million of that total is committed to Corey Koskie and Eric Hinske, two players who are long gone. However you want to count the money, the Jays are listed as having MLB's 16th-highest payroll. Fifteen other teams, led by the Yankees ($190 milllion and that doesn't include Roger Clemens) and Red Sox ($143 million) are spending more than Toronto on salaries. So, yes, the Jays have made a big jump the last two years, going from a salary base of $45 million in 2005, to $71 million last year to well into the $80 millions this year, but the truth is, every team is spending more, even the small market teams like Oakland, which now has a payroll equivalent with Toronto's.

Jays come up short in Cooperstown
By John Kekis, Associated Press
"It's certainly something I didn't expect. I don't think I ever hit a grand slam," said Bock, who has been up and down in the minors since being drafted in the 14th round in 2003 by Baltimore. "I'm just trying to show the coaching staff that I can play, just bouncing around, wherever they need me."
Balbino Fuenmayor hit a two-run homer for the Blue Jays in the eighth and Maestrales added a solo shot in the bottom half.
