Our sporting culture is different here in Canada, i don't think comparing us to US cities is appropriate and history already shows us that our Governments have acted a bit more responsibly on this issue compared to a a place like Miami Dade County that took on 2.4 billion in debt to build a stadium for that scumbag Loria.
The Quebec City example doesn't apply either, that was not a smart move on their part but they atleast did it to attract a professional sports team. Rogers has zero leverage here, if they're stupid enough to threaten to move the team they'll get laughed out of town. There is zero chance Rogers will get a penny from the province or the city even if we elect a more Liberal mayor. If they're actually stupid enough to ask for a handout, the abhorrent idea of actually subsidizing a 20 billion dollar company will probably be the one that will unite the Rob Ford crowd and the Toronto Star crowd.
