They're willing to eat only one-quarter of his salary and they want a fairly significant piece in return? Bahahaha.

I would never give up Snider for him but I wouldnt mind taking him on at all.

I don't get why people are willing to dish out hundreds of millions for an overweight first baseman or pitcher with no MLB experience but a one year commitment of about 6 million for a guy who would help solidify the shaky back end of our rotation is balked at.

It's because he's arguably worse than any of our other options, and he cannot stay healthy. His career xFIP is a thoroughly-mediocre 4.27, which is fringe-rotation quality, his ability to eat innings has been undone by his ability to eat everything else, and his stuff isn't really good enough to succeed in the AL East. We have plenty of pitchers who can put up 120-150 IP with an ERA in the low 5s, which is where Blanton would likely find himself.

Might as well just bring Josh Towers back instead from the Mexican league. He'd be cheap.

It's not always purely about numbers. Not only is he an upgrade over Cecil in my opinion (and even the stats would back that up) but they don't account for the fact he has pitched in the playoffs 5 of the last 6 years. I think with such a young staff his experience would be quite valuable, that's not to say there arent likewise players out there, maybe some more durable but at the right price I can't see why we would not be interested.
