McGowan starts throwing again - best case 6 weeks

Post#1 » by baulderdash77 » Thu Apr 19, 2012 11:39 am

So Dustin started to throw again yesterday. They have to build up his arm strength again & lengthen him out so it's going to take a minimum of 6 more weeks- so the week of June 4th is about the earliest he'd be back.

That's 7 or 8 starts that the new 5th starter (Hutchinson?) is going to get. We'll see if Drew takes the opportunity and runs with it.

We should generally assume that McGowan is a write-off and that anything we get from him is a bonus. That way, we don't help him shoulder unreasonable expectations.

You do realize that 3M is around .6 fWAR, which is slightly less than Jo-Jo Reyes posted last season. 3M in baseball money is a joke, if he has 1 season like Jo-Jo Reyes did last season we got more than we paid for. This is why it was such a great deal for us.

He was being facetious. Everybody knows the contract is negligible.

Well if the 5th really turns out to be Jesse Chavez, I'm pretty sure we're all gonna start jonesing for Mr. McGowan's return.

And he shouldn't be facetious in public, that's disgusting.

McGowan shut down for 2 weeks.

John Lott@LottOnBaseball
Mcgowan shut down again. Sore shoulder, saw Dr. Andrews yesterday. MRI showed no structural damage. No timetable, etc., etc.

Feel bad for him after getting all the way back. Also makes his weird contract extension look a bit stupid.

I will say it again, we can't count on this guy, it's setback after setback, Dusty will never be an impact pitcher for us again, his career as a starter is over.

If he didn't sign that contract extension, his career would be over! Bold statement right there.
