This could be true. But the league will want to send the rook an early message, and they don't owe him anything at this point. But the calls might save him... I still say 8-10.

8-10 games? That seems a little harsh.

To a Jays fan, yes. (And personally, I don't know if I could have stopped myself from decking the guy). But I don't think the league will have a problem being extra tough. Brett crossed a pretty big line with physical contact with an ump.

the other thing Lawrie has (or should have) going for him, is that he threw the helmet on the ground and it bounced into him..if he throws it directly at his leg it's easily 10+ games

No surprise, better coverage from the TB station... shows the pitch chart and they clearly agree the ump was going to call a strike no matter what

Lawrie deserves a few games, no matter what the calls are, there's no excuse for that. First of all, that does nothing to change the call or do anything except aggravate the officials further (and Lawrie doesn't want to get a bad rep with Umps around the league, especially as a 2nd-year guy) and no one should resort to that ****. It's just a game and although frustrated, he clearly tosses that in the Ump's direction.

Give him a few days to cool off, no problem. We have bigger issues on this team right now, anyway.

Don't blame Lawrie or the fan for reacting as they did. When you have jackass umpires making calls up as they go in response to hitter reactions at the plate, they deserve those kind of reactions.

Of course, I could have done without the helmet throw. There's no precedent for throwing a helmet at an umpire, so this could be a sizeable suspension indeed. I'd only just be guessing, but I'd say 10.

That umpire is simply corrupt and shouldn't be allowed to continue umping games. Watched all the replays and definitely, any pitch within a foot of the strike zone would've been called a strike. He just wanted Lawrie out. That kind of bull hurts the integrity of the sport. He deserved to be hit with a brick, not a beer.

Lawrie's getting 8-10.
combination of the helmet toss, the way he approached the ump like he was going to kill him, and the ferocity of his argument. can't see it being less.

its funny, though. even though the call was complete and utter horse ****, our focus should be on the 4 errors that cost us the lead. so let's pretend Lawrie gets on base. you need 1-2 hits to get him home and tie it up. Rasmus is at the plate, so you had a 20% chance of him getting a hit. just to tie it.

the Lawrie blow-up was the icing on the crappy cake. it didn't cost the Jays the game; it summarized the kind of game they had

I think 6 games at the very most. This is a first time offense. He isn't going to get 10 games. 2-6 would be my guess. But likely closer to the 2 than the 6.

Buster Olney reminds us of Delmon Young who got 50 in the minors for 'flipping' his bat at the ump.

Not the same (Lawrie only threw his helmet, not a bat), but actually not all that different either. Lawrie threw that helmet with just as much force and was closer.

(Olney also agrees with the 8-10 range).

Not to mention it sends a message. What better way to do it then to a team buried in Canada. But i'm a pessimist.

I think he'll get 5-6 games and if it's a different number, unfortunately higher.
