For whom, Garza?

I don't think he's worth half that. Well, maybe half.

His stock is high because of interest from other clubs and so the actual price will be well above what he is worth and that is not AA's style. I just don't see it happening.

I think he meant theoretically what package it would take for Garza. What you think?

Why would we trade prospects so low in our system? We never get fair value on those.

I'd say JPA + Hech would get it done.

I wouldn't trade Hech, not only because I like him and don't want him traded, but because as of now, we don't have a 2nd baseman for next year. And the fact that in two years, it's entirely possible Escobar won't be able to play short anymore.

I don't think AA would trade someone like him anyway. Remember how sad he was when he traded Molina?

I would just because his home/away splits scare me. He isn't hitting outside of crazy hitter friendly Vegas. I think Escobar will play at least the next 3 years at short, and we will likely have new prospects by then or we could even trade to fill the void. He just makes the most sense to me to trade now because I consider it a "sell high".

Escobar has actually been the 5th best shortstop over the last 4 years according to fWAR (including this one, so since 2009) and I'm not ready to call it quits. He has also been up their in UZR over the last 4 years. He's been doing everything. I think we re-sign Kelly and trade Hech.

I'm not concerned about his home/road splits. Not enough games have been played for me to consider that an issue.

I don't think AA will trade him. He's all about a "young, athletic" team. If they re-sign KJ(which they didn't seem too eager to do in the off-season) and go with him and Escobar in the middle-infield, both middle-infielders will be 30+ next year. Trading a 23 year old that gets compared to the greatest defensive short stops ever, in favor of two 30 year olds, doesn't strike me as an AA move.

I'm tempted to throw a few names out there, but I just don't think he's worth that much. Too many other teams in the market. The price would be too high. As you said last week in a separate thread, the price for young and controllable arms is sky-high right now (e.g. Latos, Gio, Cahill, etc.). Garza isn't even that young and is not very controllable (1.5 years left).

I'm eager to get rid of JPA and Thames, so I'd put them out there. Overall, I'm just not interested in Garza being a Blue Jay.

It would be incorrect to say that Rogers has shown any consistent or significant commitment to winning since it bought the team. It's very much been the opposite.

AA should try asking for money then. Because he hasn't done that yet.

Rogers tried to force AA's hand in acquiring a 4+ fWAR FA, and AA shut them down. Beeston has chased more FA's than AA.

He has. That's all PR for the cameras that you're citing.

If it came with a known bat that we could protect Bautista with then maybe, but we're still a few pieces away.

+1 We'd also need another SP to replace Hutch in August/September. Patience, people. Next year, perhaps.

Garza's stats the past two years may be a bit better than it should be as a result of playing a bulk of games in a fairly mediocre division and playing in the NL.

I wonder how pitcher performance averages out by division and league. i.e. how would Verlander have done in the AL East vs. the highly mediocre AL Central last year.

Yeah I just don't see this happening, he would be a good fit but I guarantee the asking price will be too high. This is why I would prefer going the FA route or if your going to sell the farm, make sure we are getting an elite pitcher, not just a good one.

Absolutely.

I'd be willing to part with the lot of them for Felix Hernandez. Hes not only one of the best, he's loyal and seeks stability, making an extension very possible (he's only 26 years old).

But The King says he doesn't want to leave Seattle. Go figure.

Garza is perfectly capable, but yeah...let's lock down the front of the rotation before we start engineering the middle.

Garza would be a nice fit, but were just not ready. Our team is too inconsistent to contend for a playoff spot this year.

Id rather spend prospects on a more legit pitcher.
