Blue Jays Broadcasts

Post#1 » by Boner Champ » Thu Jun 14, 2012 11:15 am

So, let me preface this by saying I've been away from Canada for a few years now, and finally sprung for MLB.com membership to watch online games.

So I can't remember if its always been this way, but in switching between Jays' & opposing teams' broadcasts, I was struck by the lack of graphics for Rogers' productions.

Does anybody know why they never use strike zone or pitch graphics, or any other technological tools, for that matter? I find them to be quite enjoyable, and feel that the home broadcasts are lacking for that reason. Are purists against them? Is it a cost issue?

Any ideas?

This could just be that Canadian broadcasts for any sport doesn't generally overuse the graphics. First thing that comes to mind is the hockey broadcasts in Canada vs US broadcasts and the whole puck fiasco years back.

They used the pitch graphics last year. I don't know why they stopped. Kind of like not showing replays to the crowd at Rogers Centre.

I guess that makes sense, but I don't know that the puck innovation is comparable - it was useless, distracting, and even insulting. There's a lot of dead-time in baseball, and using visual tools to analyze the game can only improve the broadcast between pitches IMHO.
