Gose's Swing
Houston we have a problem.
Two wrongs don't make a right, and three rights... make a left.

No worries... think of the bullpen help we'll be able to get for him

HAHA ok. so from now on i don't expect you to judge anything about any player because you're not a pro baseball coach.
the same kid who thinks farrell didn't start gomes at 3B instead of vizquel because we have no emergency catcher in the event both mathis and gomes get injured in the same game
compelling stuff from diddykong as per usual

I think Murphy said he doesn't want to change his swing until the offseason.

Makes sense. I think the worst thing they could do in this situation is start trying to change his swing up here. He is already struggling (at the plate) enough. Let him do whatever he's most comfortable with, make (lots of) notes on what needs to be improved upon, and start in Winter Ball.
For now, just keep letting him swing how he is...regardless of how tough it may be to watch.

Ya its ugly and it needs a ton of work. But Murphy's done wonders with other players on this team and if he can at least turn him into an average hitter we're going to have a damn fine player on our hands.

He was never ready. AA's season has been brutal. Snider could be building his value as a player right now.

Murphy is the last person I'd want trying to mold him into something.
Gose doesnt need to be trying to hit a homerun and pull the ball every single AB.

Re: Gose's Swing
OK so if the team knows his swing is wrong and they will try and correct it in the winter then why the hell is he even up here? To shatter his confidence? Because another 6 weeks of continued failure is only going to affect his psyche and then next time he gets called up it will weigh on his mind. Trial by fire is the worst possible thing you could possibly do to a kid they have big plans for.
Didn't Travis Snider's performance anxiety every time he got called up teach the Jays a lesson? He was called up when he wasn't ready, got called up and sent down like a yo yo and had multiple coaches trying to correct his swing. All it ended up doing was screwing him up so much that he was probably a basketcase every time he got called up. And then lo and behold he goes to the Pirates and is hitting up a storm because there's no pressure.
AA sure likes to collect prospects but doesn't seem to know how to handle him. His inexperience is showing. You don't throw prized prospects to the wolves thinking it will be some learning experience. It's a recipe for disaster.

Re: Gose's Swing
Who should we have in the outfield instead? We just don't have anyone else right now.
Vegas' outfield last night was Cust, Perales and Nanita, maybe Cust works out and can play some outfield games for us, until then we don't have any other options.
When Ramsus and Bautista are back, Gose will likely be sent down to the minors to get more at bats or Cust will join us.
He has options left on his deal, and joins a rather long list of "prospects that struggle after the first callup", it happens and doesn't mean much at this point.
It's too bad we let Vlad Guerrero go, he would in all likely hood be hitting better than Gose right now, who is at a near .500 OPS.

Met him last night in hotel elevator, he's not so skinny in person.
He seems to be playing alot better. The swing is still ugly, his girlfriend ain`t.

Re: Gose's Swing
Right now he looks like the next version of Otis Nixon, just a slap hitter that bunts 5 times a week, and at best a 3 WAR season at some point. He will steal 60+ bases easily though, and should be a good outfielder.
