OT: Colon suspended 50 games for failed drug test

Post#1 » by diddykong » Wed Aug 22, 2012 5:38 pm

Warned

Oakland Athletics’ right-handed pitcher Bartolo Colon has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Major League Baseball announced the suspension Wednesday for the 39-year-old Colon, who was in the midst of a rebound season with a 10-9 record and 3.43 ERA for the wild-card contender.

“I apologize to the fans, to my teammates and to the Oakland A’s. I accept responsibility for my actions and I will serve my suspension as required by the Joint Drug Program,” Colon said in a statement released through the MLBPA.

Colon did not pitch in 2010 but he underwent stem-cell treatment on his pitching shoulder and elbow and returned to make 26 starts with the New York Yankees last season. Colon was 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA.

You realize he was tested at least a dozen times last year and passed all of them right?

 He's been tested more than anyone. I think he mentioned like 16 times in the past few years. Only juice he's on is booster juice.

This is disappointing, as Colon's career resurgence was actually kind of inspiring...until now.

Even if Bautista and EE are using, what makes you so sure they'll get caught? If it's as easy to mask the tests as it seems to be, I doubt anything will ever happen to either one of them.

It's still a great achievement to come back from nothing.

"Colon's attempt to use Melky's fake website as his defense drew laughter from MLB officials"

Weird how a guy would risk tainting his name at the very end of his career like this. If he was using all throughout his prime, he could've retired without having anyone know. Now, even if he was clean all throughout his prime, he'll go down as a "user" because of something that happened at the very end.

Its not like he was a sure bet for the hall of fame. Whatever surgery he got last summer just extended his earning potential. Who wouldnt do it?

If it makes a difference in him getting a multi-million dollar contract over getting nothing at all at this stage of his career, why wouldn't he do it? And it's not like he'll be in the HOF, anyway, so why would he care about his legacy to any great extent?

Seems like a perfectly reasonable choice to make to me.

Serious question, what is it with the Bay Area and steroid use?
