Except he hasn't even had a bad month. He had a bad outing last week where he allowed a HR to Alex Rios (a guy who has been on fire and hitting everybody in baseball).

Stop kissing his arse, you sound like Wilner.

Use your brain, pay attention to what's actually going on, and stop making stupid, useless posts.

The question is whether he's doing the job of an 8th inning setup guy, and the indication this month is that his age, he might be running out of gas.

He didn't get charged with the two runs today, but he gave them up. He's not been consistent this month no matter how you want to argue it.

Oilver is done, even if he's had his best season statistically in a long time, and perhaps ever. 8-)

In his last 19 appearances, he's only allowed a run on two occasions. Yeah, I'd say he's doing his job as an 8th inning setup guy all right.

He didn't get charged with the two runs today, but he gave them up.

On a slow roller and a passed ball, neither of which could be seen as his fault by any reasonable observer (which you, of course, seem not to be at the moment).

He's not been consistent this month no matter how you want to argue it.

In his seven appearances this month, he's only allowed an earned run once. On an Alex Rios HR. But yeah, totally inconsistent.

Go defend Colangelo's next move for me. It's all you're good at, anyway.

What do you expect from a guy that still uses batting average?

Because pitchers in Low-A with varying upside and very little professional experience should be centerpieces in much larger deals for superstars, not regular average MLB talent. Or something along those lines.

Happ is going to have good starts and bad starts, but as long as he can maintain his strike out rate (which has jumped dramatically), BB rate (which has improved), and groundball rate, then not only do I think his HR rate will normalize a bit, but I also have no doubt he can be a good 4-5 starter in the AL East for two years.

Sorry, but I'm going to continue to call out a ridiculous post for what it is.

Remember when guys like Jackson, Ahrens, and Tolisano were still considered prospects and worth something? Sometimes it's just better to move such guys for something before they are exposed as duds (as many of them are).

I would agree. He can be a decent enough pitcher to stick in this rotation (especially when the rotation has literally no depth at all and nobody coming up in the high minors). And well, he looks like a better option than Alvarez for next year right now...that's for sure.

Because he has never been this good for any sustained period of time before and there is no reason to believe that a 30 year old home run prone pitcher moving to the AL East will all of a sudden become a legit mid-rotation option

Happ has been a league average starter throughout his career that has thrown starts like this occasionally. There's nothing all that surprising about this.

League average ?

Career FIP, xFIP, HR/9 of 4.45, 4.40, 1.16

Average of just over 1WAR per season.

There is nothing league average about him, especially with half of that time spent in the NL Central.

The only positive is he is able to miss bats, which is somewhat offset by his ability to miss the strike zone altogether.

Just saying someone is league average doesn't actually make them league average.

Kind of wondering about the lack of Janssen or Delabar in extras, I mean, what is Farrell saving them for? But yeah...nothing new about that outcome.

Can't see Chad Jenkins having the K stuff to be a successful reliever in the bigs. Although he does K more batters than the guy Farrell said had the best stuff in the organization (Dyson).

Pretty sure the Jays would take that from Happ (and he's certainly been better than that this season). Only Villanueva is giving them production better than this out of the rotation right now and nobody knows how long that will hold up.

And FYI, since 2009 (Happ's first real season in the bigs), he has the same FIP as Romero (4.33), the $30M man. His xFIP over that time (4.43) is comparable with guys like Buerhle (4.37), Danks (4.38), Weaver (4.40) and Niemann (4.46). Two of those guys just got $60M contracts...another got $85M.

Just saying someone is league average doesn't actually make them league average.

It does if they're league average like Happ is.
