opportunities can be expanded with some creative contract structuring when you consider that all 30 teams will be getting an additional $25 million in national TV rights money starting in 2014 (roughly double the current total), and that the Blue Jays have only $48.5 million committed to eight players that year, $36.5 million committed to four players in 2015, and no guaranteed money on the books for 2016.

Back-loaded deals anyone? Anthopoulos didn't shoot down the notion Wednesday, saying it "can certainly be done."

Wouldnt mind it either. It makes a ton of sense.

Do people really like back-loaded deals? I have no confidence that the Jays are somehow going to be big spenders in the world. All it means is that they will have less money to spend on other players later.

Interesting take I saw on Brandon's League's new deal with the Dodgers and its impact on relief pitchers. League could get $30 million of ouf his three year deal. He's guaranteed $19.5 million over three, but can qualify for a fourth year worth up to $8.5 million based on the number of games he finishes in 2014 and 2015. At least this is one bullet AA may have dodged- severe inflation for decent setup and closer talent.

So after the trade, all things considered we're at 112.8 million as of now and the team's holes sure are looking a lot smaller today.

Wow did not expect the team to jump to what we were spending I thought Rogers said 95 million? Maybe that was more like a minimum budget. I dont see us trading JP or anyone on those rookie contracts doing well. I think next year or the year after Mark Buehrle wont be making the money he is making. I think to compete you need to be spending in the AL East 120million. We are very close. Or next year we will do what the Marlins did #FireSale
