Tim & Sid paying tribute to Tom Cheek right now (3:14pm)

Post#1 » by James_Raptors » Wed Dec 5, 2012 6:21 pm

Tim and Sid want to devote an entire segment of the show to air the 9th inning from the 1993 wold series. They're asking fans to vote today, as soon as possible, by contacting Tim & Sid ( TimAndSid@sportsnet590.ca ) to show Fan590 management that there is enough interest to warrant this. It sounds like they have a segment open for the 3pm est slot, so it's likely that's when they would air it, should it be approved. I think this would be a FANTASTIC way of honouring Tom Cheek. Let's make it happen everyone!

They are replaying Tom Cheek's call of the first home run ever hit by a Blue Jay (Doug Ault) right now.

I will update this thread and change the title name if they decide to air the entire 9th inning, or do something else extraordinary.

Somebody put it out there on Twitter this morning. Listened to it at lunch. So much better to hear it in context. First time I've relived that inning from start to finish in 20 years.

Yup, Tim & Sid even mentioned when they got on the air at 1pm est that someone from Twitter sent him that (or one like it) link of the entire inning.

Btw, it looks like there wasn't enough support or they're not doing the full inning at 3pm.
They're heading to commercial now and mentioned a few topics they'll be discussing when they return (the entire inning would've taken 2 mins more than the allotted time for that segment)

Maybe they will do it at the end of their show?
Tim did RT me on twitter when I wrote for them to play it on air

ugh they just said they aren't allowed to do it....how does that make sense?
Wasn't it played on the Fan?
Or does MLB own the rights now?

They just played George Bell's catch to with the pennant in 1992.
Damn I miss Tom.

Now they played Dave Stieb's no-hitter, 1st in Blue-Jays history.
Damn, I can't type fast enough. They are playing the final out in 1992 for their first world Series victory!

Roberto Alomar home run versus Eckersley. I remember that HR so well. It was that feeling like "we're finally there!". It felt like the Jays had finally arrived. Remember how dominant Dennis was? He was virtually unhittable!!

People are tweeting and/or calling asking if it's ok that they are getting a bit choked up listening to these clips , or saying they have to pull over to the side of the road. What an emotional day and a great tribute to Tom Cheek.

Totally remember the exact moment, hearing Cheek's call on the Alomar homerun. One of my favourite calls of all time.

Tim & Sid is done.
If a could merge this with Yogi's thread about Tom Cheek, or just close this, that would be greatly appreciated.
sorry for the hype, it was pretty exciting when they announced the possibility of playing that full inning!
