Josh Johnson goes on DL; Romero to start Friday

Calling up Romero after one class-A start is an idiotic move.

I suspect the Jays have a better understanding of whether Romero is ready to pitch at this level than you do considering they've been watching him pitch for the last month.

But I guess we'll see.

I don't care if he's throwing like Kershaw (which the results, though promising, would hardly indicate). He obviously had physical and mental issues to sort through; to throw him into this start after one at class A is irresponsible, and yes, idiotic. That said, I hope he has a good game

Agreed. Romero is a long-term asset. Even if it means having him in the minors for most of the season, the Jays have to make sure he is OK for 2014 and beyond. I'm not sure one start is enough time to sort out mechanical and mental issues, but I guess the Jays felt they had no choice. Hopefully Romero does well. If he continues to struggle like he did in 2012, then it could lead to some long-term harm (probably just as much mentally as anything else). If he takes off and returns back to 2009-11 form, then it would be a welcome addition.

This seems like a joke. Ricky has to mark a spot on the mound, to remind himself where his lead foot should drop on the release. And his delivery now looks wonky.

Them giving up on the season was more of a joke, although Romero being a scrub definitely isn't. Anyhow, bringing up a scrub into a nightmarish team certainly isn't going to help. Although lets hope for 1 or 2 lucky starts to get a few wins and maybe get people to start addressing him as an ace again.

If it's not Romero, it will be somebody like Dave Bush or Miguel Batista. So yeah, if it is scrubs you're worried about (and you define Romero has a scrub), there's not exactly much choice.

Happ hasn't exactly been pitching well. If he has another rough start or two before Johnson comes back and Romero doesn't blow up, I wouldn't mind seeing Romero stay instead of him.
