I don't care if he's throwing like Kershaw (which the results, though promising, would hardly indicate). He obviously had physical and mental issues to sort through; to throw him into this start after one at class A is irresponsible, and yes, idiotic. That said, I hope he has a good game
Agreed. Romero is a long-term asset. Even if it means having him in the minors for most of the season, the Jays have to make sure he is OK for 2014 and beyond. I'm not sure one start is enough time to sort out mechanical and mental issues, but I guess the Jays felt they had no choice. Hopefully Romero does well. If he continues to struggle like he did in 2012, then it could lead to some long-term harm (probably just as much mentally as anything else). If he takes off and returns back to 2009-11 form, then it would be a welcome addition.
