I like Devlin on the Jays, sounds professional like he does when he is calling NBA games other than the raptors (aka not an outrageous apologist or drunken bar comedian). Not sure if he could keep himself from digressing into amateur mode should he become full-time.

He was very good during the playoffs calling games for TNT this year as well. I think when he doesn't have to fill time with inane crap for a losing team and can just call basketball for a half-decent team, he'll win over most of his critics.

This. If you notice with Devlin on Raps broadcast, he overdoes it with spewing personal stats for the Raptor players. He has to push something positive during the game as the majority of the time the Raps are losing and are usually out as a serious contender for the playoffs by mid January. He has to make it seem that the Raps are worth watching by advertizing that Amir has 8 double doubles in the past 11 games or Demar has averaged 21 point over his past games or that JV has 11 rebounds in the 3rd quarter. With the playoffs he only needs to feed off the actual game and is not pushing an agenda.

Only complaint after listening to Devlin for a little bit is that it seems like he's watching the game on a 5-second tape delay. I don't know if he does that on purpose for effect or if he's just slow to think of what to say but it's kind of annoying. Overall it's a good change from listening to Buck, though.

I prefer Devlin doing Jays baseball over Raptors basketball!
Seems a lot less of a homer when calling Jays games.

i didn't get much of an opportunity to listen to Devlin this weekend but from the small bits I did see he sounded much better than Buck

you can count on Devlin if you need the scoop on where the player went to college and is from during the at bat.

Devlin impressed me with his baseball knowledge. I'd love to have him added as a regular to the broadcasting crew, but I understand he's probably only ever going to be a fill in. Devlin is smart to try and ingratiate himself in the Canadian market. He's not flashy enough to ever become huge in the States but he can really carve out a nice niche north of the border. We can use a nice jack of all trades play by play guy to help push Rod Black out of our screens forever.

I agree, I was not expecting him to know that much. It's nice to change things up every once in a while especially over 162 games.

He is a bigger pro then most of us realize.. he knows enough about each sport to be capable. He also does a ton of pre game work.

Its nice he is becoming the voice of T.O sports.

+1

Devlin is a pro and I liked the way he's called these Jays games. I think we might even have a winning record with him in the booth? Anything to help this team...

I'd love to see him step out and call a hockey game though, that would be comical.
That's what she said.
