It's all or nothing right now. He's too jacked up and he's got too much movement in his hands that no two swings are the same with him and where the bat comes through.

Yeah I saw that part where zaun was talking about the movements of the swing. Very interesting and didn't notice that. However he seems like the type who doesn't really like change with the whole "this is how I got here" attitude

He doesn't seem open to criticism at all even though it's there to help him. You love his attitude and effort but forget criticism from media and fans, you have to be open to your coaches and them helping you. He just doesn't seem open to it and that's holding him back.

Lawrie is the type of player that a new GM (if one were to replace Alex) would trade for 50 cents on the dollar and people would go ballistic because of it. He has all the makings of a headcase. It's the same reason Milwaukee traded him.

We just have to hope his performance outweighs his attitude.

Yep I believe thats how we got him as well. A prospect like him with a good head on his shoulder would not have been moved for marcum at the time.

They're not even close at this point, but that doesn't mean people should be giving up on Lawrie. If you're starting a franchise at this point Machado is probably in your top 10 picks to build around.

Should the Jays demote Lawrie to Buffalo to regain his offensive confidence?

The Mariners sent Montero down a few days ago for much the same reason - and to master a position switch which isn't the case with Lawrie. But there are interesting parallels between Montero and Lawrie - age similar, struggles at the plate similar, both acquired in a significant trade. For Lawrie, a demotion might also whack his sense of entitlement and help him mature. The Jays could do this when Reyes is back, maybe try one of their middle infielders at 3B or bring in LaRoche from BUF for that period.

There is no other capable 3B on the roster and doing so would create a major downgrade on a team trying to win. So no, it's not going to happen.

Watching Lawrie play this year has been almost like watching Ricky Romero pitch last year...

ego > ability...

cept Ricky's ego was generated from lack of confidence, and Brett is from being over confident...
