We're talking about one of the richest companies in North America. Rogers is basically the most powerful entity in Canada (yes, more powerful than the Government).

Darvish costs quite a bit more money than Dickey, though. After this season the Rangers will have spent $65M on Darvish (posting fee plus 2 years' salary). Meanwhile, the Jays will have spent $5M on Dickey, which is really $0 since the Mets took Buck's contract to balance the money. That's a huge difference in money and regardless how big Rogers is, they clearly still have a budget every season.

Today, after the Marlins trade Dickey.

But Its my opinion that if Rogers had gotten Darvish last year and then spent the Miami $$ on say Fielder we would have taken the Orioles place last year. With Darvish in the rotation, maybe we don't put as much pressure on Romero, maybe we don't wear down the other arms so quickly and have as much DL time.

Maybe Buatista has more protection with Fielder and keeps his average high and doesn't get injured. Maybe, Prince's relaxed attitude rubs off on Lawrie and he plays within himself.

Who knows, but long term Darvish is more valuable.

But the way the team is constructed today, Dickey fits in much better. We are not the young up and coming team that Darvish and Fielder would have made us, we are the veteran team going for it all and Dickey fits in with that.

We make that signing, then we likely not only don't get Dickey. But we also don't get Johnson, Buherle, Reyes, Bonifacio.

So really the question is;

Dickey, Johnson, Buherle, Reyes, Bonifacio

or

Yu Darvish?

Based on this..I'd go with Dickey, Johnson, Buherle, Reyes, Bonifacio obviously.

If we weren't in a win now mentality then Darvish for sure.

I don't even like Darvish all that much, but I'd almost prefer him over Dickey JUST because of age.

Everything else is kind of hypothetical... It's easy to say that signing Darvish would have resulted in a completely different off-season this year, but I have no idea, really. So, uh, every other roster move the same, I'd prefer Darvish over Dickey. I like the idea of a disruptive knuckleball in this starting rotation, but Darvish's repertoire of pitches -- a fast-fastball + a bunch of quality off-speed pitches -- can be just as disruptive to opposing hitters.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.

Probably R.A. The guy is a #1 pitcher on this team. He deserves it. He put up amazing numbers and is the reigning CY Young. If you put Darvish in the rotation, where would you put him?
Some fans don't realize how limited our window is right now and Dickey seems to fit better than Darvish.

Darvish then, Darvish now, plus we keep the prospects.

Who's to say we couldn't have Darvish, and another similar like picture with those prospects going out...

Apparently, some people think that Darvish will sustain an injury because of his release:

Darvish could turn into Juan Guzman. A couple great seasons, and then down the toilet.

That's wishful thinking, from everything we know about Darvish he will continue to destroy MLB hitters and its almost guaranteed that he'll be a top 5 starter for years to come.

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.
