Injury Updates

Post#1 » by BigLeagueChew » Tue Jun 18, 2013 2:53 pm

Luiz Perez - currently throwing in Class A rehab assignment with Reyes and Morrow. Perez may be back in July.
Drabek - Scheduled to throw in intrasquad game this week. Drabek may be back in July
kyle drabek @kyledrabek4 7 Jun

Another live BP today... Loving the way my arm feels each day... Especially while throwing

Santos - Surgery was to remove bone spurs, could return in July
Hutch - Began pitching to live hitters week of June 3. Possible August return.
Lawrie - out of walking boot, playing catch, return TBD
Happ - started playing catch June 7, return TBD

Getting all of these guys back and having a spot for them while we hunt down the wild card will be an added bonus. Rosters expand September 1st however I think we will be making some moves near both the first and second trade deadline and our depth will be very good when that time comes.

I had a feeling about Perez, and figured Morrow wouldn't be back any time soon, but that's disappointing. I'm about ready to close the book on Morrow as a legitimate starting option. You just can't pitch 1/3 of a season and expect to be in a starting rotation year after year.

Not sure how 146.1, 179.1, and 124.2 translates into 1/3 of the season. I also don't think we'll be closing the book on a starting pitcher with 500+ innings and a sub 4.00 FIP considering the team's starting situation (both now and into the future).

He pitches for 6 weeks, misses 2-3 months, and then is back for the last 6 weeks of the season. The guy hasn't completed an entire season as a starter and doesn't seem like he'll ever have the durability to do so. I'm sure they'll go into next season counting on him again because of a lack of options, but I'm done counting on him for anything more than the odd great start. He's a less durable version of AJ Burnett.

Is it just me or does Morrow's injury(the way its being described) make him seem like a huge pussbag?

Forearm tightness? Really? I hate to be that guy but "tightness" isn't an injury, its a discomfort. If it was his elbow or shoulder I would be more understanding.
That's what she said.

They never fully disclose injuries. Santos had tightness initially and hasn't pitched in nearly 2 seasons now. Something is obviously wrong with Morrow and I expect him to miss another significant chunk of time.
