Chein-Ming Wang to sign with BlueJays

Post#1 » by djsunyc » Sat Jun 8, 2013 1:17 am

The Yankees lost a bit of rotation depth today, but they might have more depth on the way.

Chien-Ming Wang opted out of his minor league contract and will reportedly sign a major league deal to join the Blue Jays rotation. The Yankees gave Wang a contract in spring training, and he pitched well in Triple-A, but the Yankees were clearly never sold on him as a reliable big league option. The emergence of David Phelps in the rotation, Adam Warren in the bullpen and Vidal Nuno as a spot starter clearly didn’t help Wang’s situation.

Haha, 0 replies in this thread. This signing was totally unheralded, but who would have guessed he'd be a big part of this streak?

He's been bad for the last couple of years, but he does feel more comfortable now that he's back in the AL East again. He used to be really good once upon a time. The definition of a good, efficient, albeit non-strikeout heavy pitcher. Anyone want to comment on what exactly he's doing better over this stretch with the Jays than in the recent past, or do you think it's just luck and he's due to get rocked in a few weeks?

He's inducing grounders at a rate comparable to (better than, even) his early years, which is essential because anything that he leaves up tends to leave the park. Whether he keeps that up -- and whether our infield defense is good enough to make a grounder-happy pitcher look good -- remains to be seen, because a 64.2% grounder rate is freaky.

Well, his signing was included in another thread "Thole, Wang In, Blanco DFAd", which explains the no replies somewhat
