I guess upgrading our weakest position isn't a priority.

I would assume thats 2b

I'm more comfortable with both Kawasaki and Izturis than I am with JP. Bonifacio... not so much.

Another point here is that JPA cant even frame a pitch, I can't even count how many borderline pitches look way off because of his catching.

JP doesn't show up in either the top 10 or the bottom 10 list for pitch-framing this season, which would essentially put him in the average column for pitch framing.

Note that Blanco's showing up in the worst pitch framers list.

In fairness to Blanco, that's because he was catching Dickey all year.

I'm not sure the eye test works too well with pitch framing ability. Everyone looks for pulling the glove into the strike zone, but that isn't necessarily indicative of success.

After reading some if the more recent pitch framing articles I've been watching what JP does and he does do a lot of the things other successful pitch framers do: sets a low target, sets up outside the strikezone for pitches on the edge and keeps a stable body. He may not snap his glove around like others, and he's not Jose Molina, but it doesn't seem like the Jays are on the losing end of outside the zone called strikes consistently.

I do still dislike JP though.

As a former catcher I'll tell you that you can't frame a knuckleball and Dickey's knuckle is obviously light years better than anything I caught.

I also agree with whoever said that that best pitch framing are the one's that you can't really tell. The obvious one's to the eye don't really fool the umpires.

I don't have any problem with his pitch framing but his inability to throw out runners, consistently block the plate and pitch calling sequence ranges from acceptable to poor. That and he strikes out far too much on the other side, although there are very poor offensive catchers out there.

He's a lost cause. I understand AA has a boner for crappy players, but JPA is just too much.

While I'm definately not a fan of JPA, the pitch framing issue and the pitch selection has been blown way out of proportion, if that was such an issue and has been such a big detriment to our starting staff then why do we have the best bullpen in the league? Doesn't seem to affect them. The majority of pitchers shake off the catcher 90% of the time anyways.
