Blue Jays may be interestered in Utley

Post#1 » by CapeCrusader » Fri Jul 5, 2013 6:10 pm

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that if the Phillies decide to trade Chase Utley, the Blue Jays would be one of the teams that bids on him.

Was reported like couple hours ago and didn't see it on the board. His bat would be solid in our line up, but I don't know how good he would be on our turf.

Like half of baseball should be interested in Utley if he's available, so this isn't too shocking.

Curious what the cost on Utley would be.

If Rogers would be willing to re-sign him, then it's not as much of a concern. But this team really shouldn't be emptying the farm for a rental in a season where so much needs to fall into place from here on out to really make this worthwhile.

I'd imagine they're looking at Headley as well.. He's having a terrible year, so this would definitely be a buy low scenario, but he has been tremendous away from Petco for a good part of his career.

Love to have him if he's interested in resigning. But at this point I don't really think we should be in the rental market, at least not on the buying end of it.

If we're in the market for injury prone guys with bruck up knees, sure why not.

pass, there's a premium on him based on the name alone. Rather give the Brewers a call about Rickie Weeks, he's a flawed player who'll be overpaid but he only has one more year on his contract.

Good to hear. Second Base has been terrible all year.

If were in win now mode this season don't you think Utley is the far better option? Weeks has been awful this year while Utley is a top 2b

I think we should address the pitching rather than 2b. Lawrie will be back soon. No point of paying the premium for a rental player when we are not even at .500 yet. or consisting stay above it.

I would love a strong bat, but like people said the concern of re-signing and how he would fend on our turf. When Lawrie comes back prob better off with Izturis at 2nd (since hes been hitting the ball well).

AA says #BlueJays unlikely to deal for a rental (i.e. Utley) at trade deadline. Looking for players who can help beyond this year.
