Honestly this is just a complete embarrassment. The man wasn't even a fan of baseball. It's a disgrace having this thing in front of the skydome. A symbol of nothing but corporate greed.

I'm normally a respectful person but I really wouldn't feel bad at all if this thing was quickly and brutally vandalized.

This was a nice comment in the article:

Babe Ruth stands outside the Orioles' stadium. Ted Williams is at Fenway. Ty Cobb in Detroit. Frank Robinson in Cincinnati. Honus Wagner in Pittsburg. Hank Aaron in Atlanta. And who do we have? A rich corporate tool Ted F**ing Rogers. Disgusting. Can't wait to give this statue the finger after being gouged and ripped off for decades

Another in a long line of boneheaded moves by the sports teams of this city.

It seems like we like to celebrate and honour things for the sake of doing it because we have no real winning history to celebrate.

This was all about the Rogers family pimping out Ted as some big icon (and he is to a certain extent on the media side) but had no impact on the sports franchise they are pimping him out as part of. He basically did nothing for the Jays really and he's seen as the head of a company that most Canadians now loathe due to their constant gouging of customers.

He wasn't even a fan of sports. It was always about growing the brand, and the people who worked under him...like Nadir...were believers that pro sports was a way to go....what with live programming. They had to convince him.

Ted Rogers Bronze Statue to be Unveiled

Post#25 » by Double Helix » Wed Jul 24, 2013 11:32 pm

Maybe this year's all-in attempt was orchestrated with this Ted Rogers honor in mind? Perhaps it was all part of some legacy structure in his will.

AA: "When can I start spending? The fans are always asking."

Board: "The will stipulates that 2013 be the year. We're unveiling a statue that year."

AA: "Just that year?"

Board: "No, we're authorized to spend again for the 100th anniversary of Rogers Communications in 2020 and then again in 2045 for the 125th."

With the statue out there, we may never get to the playoffs ever again!

Statue should be of Joe Carter. The man hit one of the biggers homers in MLB history.

Definitely and there's countless other players/coaches/builders of the organization that deserve a statue before Ted Rogers outside the SKYDOME!
