Blair seems convinced Bautista will be traded, treating it as a foregone conclusion.

Blair also called Bautista "just a guy," suggested he was a problem with this team, and compared him to Arencibia about a month back. I'd take whatever he says about anything with a grain of salt.

If the Jays are going to trade Bautista with plans of having Sierra start in the OF, then they might as well put a bullet through the current roster and rebuild immediately.

I think AA will make a big, unexpected move, if only because I can't see any way the current team can stay together without a massive payroll hike, but if they trade Bautista, it better be for 2-3 good pieces (short and long-term). Something like Bautista to Texas for Profar and Rios (stick Rios in RF to replace Jose and then put Profar in the infield to solve that issue). The Jays can't afford to start Gose in CF, or Sierra in RF, or Goins at 2B, etc, etc, if they intend on doing anything involving competing next season.

Jerry Howarth came on today and raved about Moses Sierra and said he sees him as an everyday player. He was then asked about Colby Rasmus and a long-term contract and he only criticized him about his K rate. It's easy to forget because it's been so long since he played, but Colby was more than making up for his K rate. In fact, he was one of, if not THE, best Blue Jay day in and day out. I found it very odd considering how positive Howarth usually is.

I heard McCown/Cox yesterday talking about Rasmus and Arencibia like they were the same player (due to their K rates) and that the Jays would absolutely need to get rid of one in the offseason because of that. There was also talk about it being acceptable if Colby was a #8/#9 hitter on the 2014 team interchangeable with Goins. Unfortunately, it appears Colby's injury has made some forget what a great season he had and has turned him right back into one of the media's main whipping boys.

As for this sudden Sierra love, it's all made even more odd by the fact that he can't hit (.731 OPS in AAA this year), field, or run. Even if the Jays did happen to make a Bautista trade that would improve the team (which is hard to believe), Sierra certainly wouldn't be the beneficiary there.

most of what comes out of blair's mouth is horsesh*t as far as i'm concerned. the same guy who wanted colby demoted and gose to supplant him in CF a month into the season. he isn't convinced bautista's getting traded because he has a front office insider that told him so, he's convinced because he places an absurd amount of value on clubhouse intangibles and things like body language, facial expressions, leadership ability, you know, stupid sh*t. he's no more in tune with what goes on behind closed doors or in the dugout than anyone who posts on this forum, but acts like he has a grip on it all because of course he does, he wrote a book on 3 decades worth of jays baseball after all, how dare anyone challenge his opinion -- which is how he acts when a caller refutes something he says. i'd much rather listen to andrew freakin crystal than tune in to the jeff blair show.

mccown on the other hand has always loathed rasmus for some weird reason. it's borderline obsessive the way he rips on colby -- which is pretty similar to the way he ripped on bargnani but at least that was justified.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

Perhaps Blair has a special place in his heart for Doug Smith ? Maybe trying, too hard, to make Doug not look like the biggest dolt in the city ? Because if Blair suggested this, then surely he has taken the crown.

Or has turned to crack as a substitute for watching baseball ?

I caught the tail end of it. This is nothing new as far as Cox is concerned, but at least McCown can sometimes be entertaining even if he is almost always off his rocker.

But this conversation was different. I'm talking seriously making me ill listening to the two of them banter back and forth over that topic.

So... trade Bautista to make room for Sierra?

Unfortunately it's probably because AA gave him a two-year extension for non-negligible dollars. I agree, the young'uns should be getting more of a look. At least Gibbons had a relatively quick hook last night.

The better question is why is Todd Redman still starting? Are we really considering him as a starter for next year?

With this level of "decision making", the Blue Jays are quickly falling into Toronto Raptors territory. It's getting bbbbbaaaaaaaaaaaddddd.

did gregg zaun just seriously suggest that bautista be traded for gallardo and weeks? he did didn't he...while also saying "would you rather have a WS title, or jose bautista?"

Yes, their team is actually worse than the Jays. Significantly so. And yes, Gallardo and Weeks are actually a pretty large part of the reason why they're worse than the Jays, what with their combined 0.2 WAR. And yes, the two of them will combine to make considerably more money next year than Bautista himself.

But even still...okay, I can't even facetiously defend it. What the ****.
