I'm the small minority that thinks Beckham still has a chance to put up some really good numbers - all he needs is a change of scenery.

Not sure what the rumours are but I'd assume it would consist of one of Drabek or Hutchinson. Doubt they'd have any need for a Pillar or Sierra.

And Kevin Seltzer, Replacement-Level Player Whisperer.

Would you do that? I might give up Drabek, but I'd shank AA with a shard of my broken dreams if he traded Hutchinson for a guy with several years of meh behind him.

Davidi's says this is dated news and hints the Jays are not all that interested.

I would assume that if Stroman or Sanchez were in play we'd be getting a far superior player than Beckham?

This team needs to find some guys that can defend the positions of need for us and have some leadership qualities. I'm not sure we have any position players that qualify in the leader category. Bautista is more of a guy that just does his job and tries to lead by example. This team needs to find some value and leadership and character guys that can defend.

Brian McCann would be an awesome signing but I can't see the Jays spending the money needed to land him.

I guess it really depends on our situation. We're in dire need of pitching, but Hutchison will be on an innings limit this year anyway. The FA pool this year is meh, and Beckham has been relatively healthy most of his career so If it creates an opportunity for a 2-2 trade with a pitcher coming back (Floyd?) then yes, a risk worth taking in my opinion.

Or perhaps we look at San Diego and explore a trade for Amarista or Forsythe.

We can't afford to trade away anymore of our good prospects for second-tier major leaguers. It doesn't matter what our payroll might be...if in a couple years we don't have a few average-or-better players on pre-arb salaries, the team is going to be screwed.

While I agree with your sentiment, I still think our older players hold a lot of value. Give it one more year, if this does not work out again, it's time to blow it up anyway - guys like Bautista and Encarnacion can restock the system with young arms again.

It's not about one more year, it's about what we do if we actually succeed in that year. I don't care if Rogers hands AA a blank cheque for $170m...if we do not have several spots held down by guys making $500k apiece, there will be massive holes.

That's what guys like Drabek, Stroman, Sanchez, Nolin and Osuna are hopefully for. Either way, if there is no longer any interest, then no point arguing haha.
