Saying that there's a better option than a 39 year old DH whose last above replacement level came 5 years ago, isn't same as having the route to WS all mapped out. It's a common sense. Guys like Youk, Berkman, Jeff Baker and Mike Morse could be had cheap and would bring whatever DeRosa brings to the table, with more upside.

Your definition of "cheap" is radically different than mine, then. In the rosiest projections of our payroll, we might have $15m to fix this mess. All of those players save for perhaps Baker will command a few mil, and we cannot afford to spend that money on a platoon player when we have at least two positions in dire need of upgrade and a rotation shot to ****.

Honestly, I think picking up Lind's option is a far bigger risk than DeRosa (who can be released or traded pretty easily at $750k). If Lind has turned the corner and can be counted on to a .900 OPS hitter against RHP going forward, then it will probably end up being good value. However, 2010-2012 is still pretty recent, and if he goes back to being a low-OBP, .800 OPS hitter against RHP that he was post-2009/pre-2013, then he's a huge waste of money.

It might have been better to consider moving Bautista to 1B to preserve his body and find a OF option (or two) instead of picking up Lind's deal, but I guess the Jays didn't want to take the risk of being stuck with someone worse than Lind on the roster.

Bautista isn't going to move from RF until he just breaks down completely. I know he's moved to 3B/1B in a very bad pinch before, but he was visibly unhappy with it. He'll be in RF until he leaves the Jays.

Kawasaki's claim to fame in this nightmare season was him getting demoted initially in June which was the first and only time the manager called a team meeting to help cope with the player's feelings on this tragic event. These are grown men we're talking about. Team sputtering on the field and hovering a bunch of games under .500 all season wasn't a concern but this was for Jed Clampett Gibbons.

If only Farrell was there to hold them all together.

the amount of fans and jersey/shirt sales kawasaki brought in is worth more than his contract.

after a horribe season he was the only fun thing about going to games, especially for casual fans.

And that 11 game winning streak.

Oh man, those were good times.
