Only thing I can think of is that he is only meant to be here a couple of days and will be swapped with Wagner quickly.
Otherwise this is a complete and utter head scratcher. He could have been here as a reliever last year...
and letting Happ get a start over him is just asinine.

I'm of two minds there, simply because he's a good enough deal-maker to get us value leading up to the trade deadline...and I'm increasingly convinced that we're going to be (or at least should be) triggering a rebuild. We simply have too many holes, particularly if the bullpen doesn't come around, and we're going to have even more holes in the off-season, still with no money to fill them. Keep AA for the draft, give him a mandate to do his horse-trading thing leading up to the deadline (he seems to have a better sense for trading vets for kiddies rather than the reverse) and clear the decks at the end of the year.
Would be about the best situation for AA. His rep. has taken a considerable hit over the last two years, this allows him to regain some credibility as well and position himself for another job. I still applaud AA for some of the tactics he's employed, however, I'm not going to deny he has dropped the ball lately (bump in payroll or not this season - creative exec's find a way).
You're seriously delusional if you think AA would even be considered for a GM position with another team once he gets canned from here.

You're seriously delusional if you think that he wouldn't. While baseball doesn't recycle GMs to the extent seen in other sports, Anthopolous did enough in his first couple years to ensure that someone would give him a Special VP of Baseball Ops position or what have you, and it isn't a big leap for a team to conclude (rightly or wrongly) that the one horrific offseason can be chalked up to circumstances...prior to that he was one of the most highly-regarded GMs in the league.

**** your asterisk.

You probably could have saved yourself of few minutes and stopped it there.
But yeah, this won't be AA's swan song in MLB.

His exploitation of certain aspects of management caused MLB to revamp certain systems (FA compensation, and Intl FA). Maybe I am delusional but I could see a small budget team interested in adding him to management.

Yep. I could see Tampa being interested in having him in some capacity...they've struggled in the draft in recent years, and manipulation of the draft system is AA's forte.

**** your asterisk.

He could get an assistants job somewhere but I didn't challenge that. But another Gm position? About as likely as Gibbons getting another managers job. You are what your record says you are no matter what some here like to sugarcoat it as. Don't forget the same people here ragging on AA for being incompetant thought he was the boy wonder the last 3 years.

Yawn...
You challenged my assertion that he'd get another job in mlb. Yet, now you say you didn't challenge that. What is it.

I don't think that Anthopolous is incompetent, and that's why I think that he will get an assistant position, and probably parlay that into another GM job. I think that he was really very competent for his first three seasons -- a perspective shared by most of the baseball world -- but he rolled the dice on a bad series of moves out of a feeling that we had a narrow window where i) the rest of the division was down, and ii) our ownership was willing to spend. That will cost him his job, along with some of the blind spots he has demonstrated in roster management. But "guy who traded, drafted and hacked his way to one of the best farm systems in baseball in three years" is still the sort of resume that will keep him dining out on someone's company card for a long time.

**** your asterisk.

Time to put AA out to pasture.

It's ingenius. What could be a lower leverage situation than pitching the first inning?
I'm not that perturbed. It seems to me that this is developing into an interesting team, if we can just get the RP situation straightened out. The diminutive Stroman might be ideal for the swingman long-relief/starter Carlos V. type role.
