Just imagine the reaction if Bautista was the one in a similar spot getting benched in his walk year.

The obvious difference is that Bautista now has a clear track record of consistent, well-above average performance, and seems to show up for work on time.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Why are we arguing about Bautista? He's literally the last person on this is damn team we have to worry about/blame.

Funny thing is, Wilner follow it up by saying Homeruns are a big part of the Blue Jays and that they have a lot of homeruns hitters. Caller is right, but Wilner says wrong. Wilner then acknowledges the same thing the caller said, but it's only right if Wilner says it?

I could not give half a duck's fart about Wilner or people's opinion of him. I specifically don't enter that thread 'cause I find people whining about him inane, but I'm responding here because of the point about HRs.

The caller is wrong. Your quote is, "Guy calls in saying that the Blue Jays can't win without hitting homeruns." That's wrong and is not the same thing as the HR is a big part of the Jays offense. Nor does Wilner, by your posts, say the Jays rely too much on HR. Now if you're paraphrased incorrectly then fine Wilner said what the caller did, but then they're just both wrong, which is no problem, but the way you posted it he said something different than the caller.

As to the point, the Jays can and do win without hitting HRs. They're good at hitting them no question, I'd say his characterization that it's a big part of the offense—if that's what he said—is accurate, but it's hardly their sole tool for success. They hit singles and doubles just fine. They walk more than average and strike out far less than average (that one surprised me 'cause Fat Juan and Colby, but Jose and Edwin have fantastic K% for power bats), they're a solidly good offense that also hits a large number of HR. The pitching and defense are full of positive and negative points that play roles in the Jays success. This is not a one-dimensional team. We've had those in the past, I'm pretty sure we can all recognize them and this team isn't one of them.

Wilner is a tool and can be intentionally antagonistic with his callers, but it's a shtick like Rush or Stern or whoever and it's incredibly easy shtick because every single person in the history of mankind who has ever called in to a sports talk call-in show is a **** goddamn moronic **** stupid idiot (I could probably take the modifier "sports" away and that would still be true). Stop calling in to radio programs with your opinions about sports, that's what places like this are for. Let's all be idiots together. Quietly. The only people worse than the callers are the producers that still program call-in shows.

Makes no sense how you're trying to justify that what the caller said is not the same as what Wilner said. They both imply the same thing. A glass half full is the same as a glass half empty. Are you trying to say that homeruns don't help the Jays win games? That those 158 HRs don't matter? The Jays are 3rd in the League in homeruns. Can you imagine what the Jays record would be without them? They already have a sub 500 record with those 158 HRs......................their record would be unimaginably awful without them. Is it so far fetched to Wilner, you, and some others that someone suggests the Jays rely on the homerun ball more than most teams in the League to win their share of games? One again, they are 3rd in the league in HR, but there are 12 other teams who hit less homeruns that have a better record than the Jays. Obviosuly the National don't have a DH position, and Pitching is also another variable to take into consideration, but it's not wrong to suggest that HRs have helped the Jays win much of their 72 games than say the Yankees who also have 72 wins who don't have nearly as many homeruns as the Jays.

And to the pitching. So their pitching and ERA is not great. It's below average. That would support the HR arugment even more that they have to score more runs to win games, and hitting homeruns helps that cause, and they are 3rd in the league in HRs.

And talk about Shtick. It probably is with Wilner, because he has to keep his job. He's gotten in trouble before when he didn't stick with his shtick. But he is the worst at it. He is the only one who doesn't allow callers to call in and have their say without apologizing for the Blue Jays afterwards. Without going on the defense. It's one thing to go at callers who are crazy, but it's another to go at a caller that actually does make a fair point, but Wilner doesn't seem to want any part of it. He won't allow it. He won't allow another caller to be right. He is right and everyone is wrong. It kills him to have a caller call in and make a fair point. Other radio hosts with a shtick allow callers to call in, have their say, and move on. Wilner doesn't move on. He doesn't say okay, next caller. Why does the show take calls? Cancel the calls, cancel the show.

If we're all idiots here, then what is Schad—the idiot savant?
