Re: Playoff bandwagon thread
Should have just sent Gordon home and end it with high drama ... losing on a pop up is the most brutal way to go out on the final play of the world series

Would have been fitting. But it's the right call to hold him.
What's Perez' batting average. Way better percentage Gordon beats that throw. That play was a cluster.
how could you possibly even calculate that. crawford had the ball in really shallow left as gordon rounded third, even a non-perfect throw could've had him imo, and what worse way to end the WS than to get gunned out at home for the loss

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

disagree. that play will be analyzed with satellite video before it's all over. don't think he was that shallow either. want to see it again. it seemed certain to me they'd be late to home. it was a triple before the guy booted it 10 feet on the track...

crawford already has the ball in the frame below, and he's pretty shallow and has a terrific arm to boot. no coach or player in their right mind would tag-up on a ball that shallow had it been a sac fly situation (gordon wouldn't be at top speed like he was there mind you, but would have a more direct route to home). gordon looks over into the outfield when he's halfway between 2nd and 3rd and knows he can't make it home so kind of lets up a bit too

Re: Playoff bandwagon thread
think of it this way ... when has bumgarner given up back to back hits this postseason ??? dude has been lights out ... would you rather have your wounded catcher try to get a single or go all or nothing at home plate ... idk about you but i'm taking the risk

Re: Playoff bandwagon thread
I think if Gordon ran harder as the ball was hit, then he may have had a shot at home, but no way anyone would have sent him in that scenario. Not in Game 7 with 1 out left. If Gordon gets thrown out at home by a sizable distance then it would have looked way worse than losing on a pop foul out.

Re: Playoff bandwagon thread
He would have been an easy out at home considering where he was relative to where the relay was.
But I don't know what took him so long to get to third when the outfielders had to run the ball down to the wall, and then it got booted on the warning track.

You also have to consider that Gordon was probably pretty tired at that point.

Bumgarner's too good. Almost 50IP in a month and carried the team all the way from the wild card game right to the end.

Hey, thanks! From that picture, his chances dont look too good at all.. it did seem to me he must have let up running a bit, but the live camera work really gave us no clue at all where Gordon was during the entire play. Like MB says later in the thread, a full run the whole way and I bet he makes it. But with where he is there, and with a good throw, it seems obvious he would have been toast. (Something still tells me the throw would have been hurried and botched -- that whole play felt un-rescuable...lol)

Still a little torn. I mean, don't run into outs...and he would have been out, but game 7, 2 outs already, Bumgarner pitching like an ****, 'that's what speed do'...don't you kind of have to force the throw and roll the dice?

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Re: Playoff bandwagon thread
When it skipped by the CF I thought it would be a triple
When it was booted by the LF I thought it was going to be an inside the park homerun
But upon viewing the replay, Gordon really didn't look very quick rounding the bases

The play of the game was that double play started by Panik
Have to give him a ton of credit for that and I'm glad time was used to get the call right
