Re: Smoak signal: Lind moves one step closer to the door?
Over the last 2 seasons, Adam Lind is 5th in baseball against RHP among hitters who've had 700 ABs. His OPS is .931.
He's behind Chris Davis and right in front of Robinson **** Cano.
He's 60 points better than Bautista!
Why are we trading him!!!

Lind's bat against RHP has always been underrated. We're not going to replace him one for one with waiver fodder or league minimum guys. Maybe we can pick up Mike Carp and he can channel his inner 2013 Red Sox Magic Horseshoe luck and he can replace Lind in his ability to hit righties, play atrocious D, and sport a hideous beard. By being so one-dimensional, the question is raised of how much value he provides for his one singular skill. In the end, we all know the real reason his name is being bantered around is because of his criticism of management.

Because for some reason AA has decided to value health now and Lind can't stay on the field for more than 6 weeks at a time it seems. I don't think that's a good reason to trade him but that seems to be the excuse he's using now. In reality they probably think they can replace his value for less than the $7 million he's owed on his option.
Nothing has changed. This team will continue to penny pinch and hope for winneryness luck again next year.

It's sad. Baseball was my favorite sport growing up. Rogers has just been so horrible to the BJ's I just can't even bring myself to watch a game.

Why does everyone suggest Rogers and jays are being cheap? If you read this forum you would think the jays have one the lowest payroll.
We are the 10th highest in the league. Just face it, we were bad not because we didn't spend, but because the way we have allocated our dollars to players there is a lot of wasted value.
For all the good signing Jose Bats, Edwin to those value deals, you got the likes of Ricky Romero making 7.5 million. Or Buehrle being paid 20 mill (He represents about 1/6th of our payroll), now he may have been our best pitcher but that saying something else. Or you got 8 mill tied to Brandon Morrow, who can't stay healthy for more than a quarter of a year.
Looking at the deal where everyone said we fleeced Miami, getting Jose/Buehrle, we'd been better off keeping Henderson Alvarez at 525K (who is turning into a pretty decent starting option), and using the like 36 million between Jose/Beuhrle to better use.
There is essentially no way to improve all the holes on the roster, when your paying Jose Reyes/Buerle/Dickey/Ricky Romero roughly = 55 million That's almost half of dollars spend on 4 guys, 3 guys on the downside of their career, bad value deals, and one guy can't pitch anymore.

If Justin Smoak and Liam Hendriks are on this team next year, I may have to consider a boycott. They can't be serious with this crap.

Hey Cy. What's happening? Have we both landed in an alternate universe?
I agree with you!!!

Re: Smoak signal: Lind moves one step closer to the door?
As much as I hate the fact that the Jays seem to think highly of Hendriks, I think that trade is not very significant at the moment. He could easily be snuck down to Buffalo in ST, which I hope is AA's intention with that deal. Smoak is more of an issue because there is almost no way they would tender him a contract without the intent of playing him everyday, so I've already come to terms with him being the 1B next year. Just have to hope his bat improves in a better hitting environment.
As far as Lind, I'm sure his salary and his big mouth are the main reasons for his impending departure, but at the same time you have to consider how flawed he really is. His one skill is excellent, but he brings no defensive or base running value, takes up two roster spots, clogs up he DH spot when a vastly superior DH is already on the roster, and is coming off a completely unsustainable BABIP. There are valid reasons to trade him, from freeing up the DH spot to use Reyes/Bautista in that spot a lot more during the season, to selling high. The problem, obviously, is replacing him with Smoak.
As far as I'm concerned, we will know if AA is shedding payroll if he trades Buehrle. To me, that's the deal breaker. The Jays are not going to find a 3 WAR/200 IP starter to replace him, so if they trade him without getting a similar/cheaper/younger player in return, then that's a clear sign of what their intentions are.

though he didnt have the amount of at bats still no more than 30 players hit better than lind as year, and hes on a cheap contract...but if we improve our infielder or outfield or bullpen, we can move him, hes got value

If Lind is traded and Smoak is the replacement we obviously know AA doesn't read advanced stats.

This lind move is exactly what i was talkign about above, too much dollars tied up to 4 - 5 guys, they need flexibility in order to address all the holes on the team, unfortunately, I don't think they'll have enough room to do that, without getting rid of Jose R/Bhurle

$7 million is nothing in baseball. For what Lind can provide in a platoon he's actually great value. The flexibility with trading Lind comes from essentially removing the DH spot from our lineup. Instead we will just use it to rotate guys through and give them nights off when needed.

I'm not saying that the best way to create flexibility. I'm sure if he had his way he'd move reyes and or Bhurle...However I doubt they get much for them without eating a significant chunk of their contracts, and even then, not sure what they'd get, so he's probably viewing it as, do I eat say 10 mill of each Reyes and Bhurle contract, get some scrubs in return, and try to replace their production with a 10 mill player? That 10 mill player likely won't produce the same as Reyes or Bhurle. Without expanding the payroll the Jays are stuck...it's a similar situation when the Raptors traded for JO, we couldn't do much, cause he was putting us at or above lux tax.
