Why? I would rather have him than Phillips....

I think i'd have to agree with you there. When he bats, Phillips has no strength in his arms, and he runs like a girl.

Plus Fasano's moustache > Phillips' goggles.

Plus I think he had a great rapport with the pitching staff and seems like a fantastic club house guy. You can never have too many of those.

Really, I loved the mustache, but:

Fasano was batting .178

unless he is a pitcher, that can't cut it.

For playing once every 5 games, really? Its not like we were keeping him to play everyday with Zuan back.

While I agree that Fasano is likely WAY cooler than Phillips and probably a better dude in the clubhouse, he couldn't hit to save anyone's life. He's awful at the plate. He's even worse than Phillips.

Probably why he got designated.

Isn't there something else like we can't designate Phillips without making him a FA or clearing waivers or something? I'm not certain, but I think that's another difference between the two catchers.

I think designating for assignment means the player has to go through waivers 1st then you can cut him outright or send him down to AAA? I am not fully up on that subject.

That's right... basically he's taken off the 40 man roster. Then he can be traded, placed on waivers, or released in the next 10 days. If he clears waivers he can go to the minor leagues. Depending on the contract the player may have the right to refuse assignment and become a free agent.

I think it was Phillips ability to play first that kept him up here, not his hitting. The "fear" of a guy going deep just doesn't seem to cut it after 1 HR in 130 at bats. Otherwise people would be pitching around Royce Clayton.
