The signing of a proven closer like Soriano - assuming he still has it - could really solidify our middle-of-the-pack status by allowing us to use Cecil in higher-leverage situations. Loup has been forced into that role this season and the results haven't been what one would hope.

Soriano should not be made closer, assuming Gibbons continues to use defined bullpen roles. A Soriano signing is not to bump Cecil/Osuna/Hendriks down, but to ensure that we don't have Schultz/Delabar/whoever in high leverage spots.

Pretty surprising a guy with his track record couldn't secure a guaranteed major league job. Yes, the second half was bad, but overall the year was still very good.

If I were him I'd be firing my agent right about now.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Already fired his agent, heh.

Guessing this is a minor-league deal with a fairly hefty salary upon reaching the bigs, though.

Ya apparently it's a minor league deal in name only. I read it's $4.1 million prorated along with a possible $4 million in incentives.

Hate to beat a dead horse Ryan Webb should've been our guy.

Ryan Webb??? What a random name. He's a decent reliever, and we have lots of those. I suppose you're bringing it up (apparently it's not the first time either, if it's a dead horse) because he's posting an insanely lucky BABIP, but trust me, that ERA and WHIP will come crashing back to earth in no time.

Soriano would have been a good depth addition, but I won't lose any sleep over not getting him.

We need a closer is such a bad way. I'm not comfortable with Cecil as our closer.

He's been dominant for 3 years in a row and has no platoon split. What more could you want?

So its 4.1 million prorated with 4 million incentives like Santoki mentioned.... its a minors deal, so nothing guaranteed.

How hard would have been for Jays to get creative here?..... say a MLB contract at 3 million prorated with 4 million is incentives.

Soriano gets less but guaranteed money and a MLB roster spot.... if he bombs, just just cut him and lose only the prorated 3 million figure. If he is a success, jays pay 4 million, but atleast he earned it and Jays get a solid return.

anyway, thats just what I would have done.
