I think part of it is probably an ego thing with Bautista. With Donaldson added, he's no longer the best player on the team. With Tulo added, he may not even be the second best player on the team. Bautista is a competitive guy, and used to being the top dog. This was his team for a long time, but not anymore.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Didn't go through all the pages so I don't know if this was already posted. Just noticed this while looking for Tulo's MLB debut. His first hit was to Jose Reyes :o 8-)

I feel like Jose is sad Reyes is gone but more mad that we didn't add pitching(which we all know is what the Jays need).

I personally have no problem with what Jose said or how he reacted to it. Its something we've all said as well. It was a good trade but doesn't solve the main issues with the team.

If EE is traded for a great pitcher, I don't see how he can get mad at that.

Dwight Howard/Top 10 draft pick

The whole trade would be something like DH for Hibbert + 3 Firsts

Lets try to put a Toronto connection to this game..

how about:

Kevin Durant vs Tulo
Nick Collison vs LaTroy Hawkins

for

DeMarre Carroll vs Jose Reyes
T-Ross (day after scoring 51 points) vs Hoffman (potential to be Ace)
Lucas Nogueira (potential as rim protector/backup) vs Miguel Castro (potential to be closer)
Ronald Roberts vs Jesus Tinoco

...we are talking about the best player in the game in a premium position and has been injury prone... guys, we just acquired Tulo

Thanks guys!

One thing we're all taking for granted is that there is a market for EE of teams willing to give up a great pitcher for him. The Dodgers have two of the top guys in the league and are still adding more pitchers and going after Price. The only type of team that is going to want EE is a team in contention and why would they give up pitching for him when teams know you need it in great abundance?

Basically I don't see what's changed from earlier in the year when there was talk of doing this and we all agreed that it would be difficult to move EE for his true value. If we trade EE it has to be as a seller to get market value for him. If we trade him as a buyer we're going to take less for him.

Tulo becomes our best player (along with Donaldson), but it'll be meaningless unless there is a follow-up move(s) for starting pitching.

Great point. I didn't look at it that way. :(

I wish no harm on anyone but who knows If some of you including myself will be alive in five years. We have a great team, sure the pitching sucks but that could all change in a matter of days. We have the best SS, 3B and RF, no other team can say that. Life is so unpredictable, enjoy life and the team we have now.

youre the reason im gonna have to start paying for an ontario pension plan now

You're the reason you're a loser.

But you're assuming that his hip (if it is the reason for a decline) will progressively get worse as opposed to him potentially getting stronger. The honest answer here is that we do not have enough of a sample size to say one way or another that his struggles won't dissipate a bit.

How many players get stronger after an injury in any sport?

After surgery? Is this a real question? You don't exactly hit the ground in stride when coming back from an injury. No guarantee Tulo will, but it cannot be assumed he won't either.

Sure Hoffman is no guarantee. Just like there is no guarantee that Tulo will stay healthy and not be on the DL chunk of the season every year for the duration of the contract. People are saying Reyes is injury prone, but i was even a bit shocked at how many games he has missed the last 6 years. On the turf, which in the past he said he was not a fan of, it remains to be seen if he can be healthy for the rest of his deal. Sure you can plan ahead, but i seriously doubt Rogers and its ability to give AA more money in the coming off-season to plan ahead and improve this team significantly. Beeston said last year the payroll was going to be 137-140 M, but instead it was 125 M on opening day. The people in this forum that said Hoffman is strictly a prospect and is no guarantee, sound very much similar back a couple of years ago who said

Syndergaard is just a prospect and could be a bust. They used that justification for saying the Dickey deal would be good, and that AA is a genius. Two years later, and Syndergaard has looked very impressive, and at age 22 will only get better. Saw him take a perfect game into the 7th inning last night. D'arnaud has played well before he was hurt, and Wuilmer Becerra is showing great potential in the minors. Dickey is a 40 year knuckler who struggles for the first two or three months every year, before he starts playing well. Nothing is a guarantee with prospects, but right now i would be much happier to have young controllable high potential arms like Hoffman, Castro, and Syndergaard, to go along with Sanchez and Stroman for the next couple of years. This is especially the case since Rogers refuses to go all in and i have no faith in them giving AA or any other GM the full resources to go all in to improve the team.

So since it happened to syndegaard surely it will happen to Hoffman? Is that what you are saying?
It's like when we were saying drabek was going to be in our rotation for years to come..how did that go?
Oh u say syndegaard pitch a perfect game till the 7th? I saw morrow pitch a perfect game till the last out, I saw arencebia hit 2 home runs in his debut, I saw Romero have a 6 or 7 war in one year..how are they doing..having a good start doesn't guarantee anything..
Only guarantee in the whole deal..if tulowitski is healthy, he will put up elite numbers..period...

I think AA deserves a lot of credit for acquiring players on the level of Donaldson and Tulo. That's a really hard thing to do. I am definitely happy with this trade.
