I think it is worth highlighting that last week we witnessed something truly extraordinary.
When Edwin had that 9 RBI game it gave him 23 RBIs in 7 games.
This has only been done once before in all MLB history, when Joe Dimaggio did it in 1939.
To achieve something offensively in baseball that has only happened once in over 100 years is pretty damn incredible. We will almost certainly never see any player have as productive a week as that ever again.
wow.

Re: Edwin's Remarkable Achievement
The other thing that was noted in an article today is that when EE and Donaldson each had 35 RBIs and 10 home runs in the same month it was the first time this had been done by 2 teammates since Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig did it.
Now that is some pretty fine company! Truly mind-boggling production.

Re: Edwin's Remarkable Achievement
Since I started this historically-minded thread i'll just add that although I feel like a bandwagon hopper because i've only been a casual fan in recent years (devoting all my available fan energy to the Raps instead!) I have been a baseball fan since I was a kid (a looong time ago) and because my father wrote a book about Babe Ruth I've always enjoyed baseball history. That's why these sorts of stats really knock me out.The last time I was around on this baseball board posting it was when Doc was having some of his greatest moments. I seem to recall posting another truly incredible stat at that time whereby Halladay had 60 straight away starts in which he went 7 innings or deeper, something that only Grover Cleveland had done about a century ago. Baseball is such a trip that way.
Actually I feel very (very very) slightly personally connected to the recent Jays feats because of that book of my dad's, because I went around with him when I was like 7 years old and met several hall of famers who had played with Ruth and Gehrig, and around that time I also wrote to Joe Dimaggio asking for his autograph. My dad said he'd never write back but literally (and remarkably) 3 days later i got a postcard from him. I still have it too. Maybe 100 years from now this lineup will be remembered as one of the best ever too. You never know. If Tulo can heat up that 1-5 will be pretty impressive.
