Dennis Eckersley still won both MVP and Cy Young that year :nonono:

Eckersley was scary. Lights out anytime he rolled in. I wouldn't deny him those awards.

And that's why the Alomar homerun was so epic.

Edit: Did you see him spit on home plate? Who's house.

Again... so is my Corolla. haha. Beeston has said it already needs $200M-$400M in renovations. So maybe they'll be content with patching it up every few years and deferring a complete rebuild, but I expect a new stadium before the 40th anniversary of SkyDome.

You seem to be stuck on a want for a new stadium vs. what is realistic. We all would love a new stadium but by basically announcing they are pumping 400 million in the SkyDome over the next several years, they are telling you this stadium is here for the long haul.

You don't pump that kind of money in to a stadium and expect to get a maximum maybe 7 years of life out of all the renovations and start looking at a new stadium in 2025, you want it to last as long as possible. And 10 years from now who knows what the landscape is downtown so they will start doing assessment of locations and how to play somewhere if they plan to stay downtown on the current site. It's going to take a long time of planning to get things done and look at how much time they've taken researching and investigating natural grass, Rogers doesn't really move with speed.

There's really no incentive for them to build a new stadium. 200M to 400M over the next 5 years or so (which already takes the stadium to 30 years) should easily give them another 10 years. Stadiums and a car are not even close to comparable the way you are trying to make it out to be.

It's very unlikely that Toronto is getting a new baseball stadium before the Dome hist 40 years unless something structurally changes significantly, the NFL comes to town and they start exploring a venue for a large stadium or maybe the Summer Olympics bid is won and they look to tie in building a new stadium within that project.

It's probably one of the best located stadiums in the entire league - right in the heart of downtown Toronto, walking distance to the biggest transit hub in the entire country, and still tons of parking around. The retractable roof has been very practical over the years, and the renovated 100-level concourse is bright and open. Sightlines are great even up in the 500 level.

I think it's completely fine the way it is for the next 10-20 years at least. Will be even better with the renovations...

That might be a bit of a stretch... City Place and surrounding area has very minimal parking.

Umm... what? There is a tremendous amount of of underground parking within a 5 minute walk, the massive surface lots still around at Front/Spadina, plus tons of more parking space for the downtown core in general within a 10 minute walk (heck the convention centre right next door has parking spaces for several thousand cars). Parking is not an issue.

That being said, considering it is walking distance from union station, all the people stuck living out in the burbs should be taking transit in anyway.

I'm not sure how often you drive and park downtown, however I'm down there almost daily and trust me when I say parking between Spadina & Yonge and King south to the lake is a nightmare. Also, I'm not sure if you know that those surface parking lots which you speak of located at Front & Spadina on both the Northwest and northeast corners along with the one at Blue Jays Way & Wellington are either up for rezoning for condo development, or have already been approved for condo development... All the power to you if you want to pay the convention centre parking rates, as shown below, but I'll pass...

I live around the area and have for several years. Prior to that I was stuck out in the burbs like you so I drove in daily. After 5pm during the week there are plenty of parking options for under $15 (ie the surface lots at front/spadina are $10). Weekends are more of course... but then all the other underground lots across the downtown core are empty and have lower rates if you feel like walking.

And FYI those surface lots (particularly the one on the north-east corner of front and spadina) has been zoned for condos for over a decade. Yes one day they will be developed, but not any time soon.

Not to drag on this debate, however I don't live in the burbs, I live in midtown and a lot of my business is located downtown which is why I find myself down there so often. Anyway, below are the plans for the recent development of the Globe and Mail and surrounding area... It will be a 4 building development with commercial inclusions...

The issue as I see it is you will never get a better location for a baseball stadium in the Toronto area as the Skydome. So while a new stadium would be nice the Jays would be downgrading on location big time. And while retractable roofs have somewhat gone out of vogue for more retro style stadiums, the Dome is actually far more advantageous for a city like Toronto that needs a closed stadium until as late as May.

This is for the lot at the north-west corner. I was referring to the much bigger surface parking lot at the north east corner.

And the old toyota dealership has been torn down at the north-west corner and has been turned in to a temporary surface parking lot until that development starts. So for the time being we have even more parking than usual.

Even when the site is developed, there will be MORE underground parking than the surface lot holds. For example the Fly condos at the Front/Spadina replaced a surface parking lot and added even more underground parking.

The downtown core has an influx of hundreds of thousands of workers from outside the downtown core bringing their cars in during working hours and they all have places to park... jays games generally happen outside these hours. Meaning there is and always will be tons of parking available for jays games.
