The reality is the team would sell out some but not every game in September if it was not for this factor. Ironically, the team would have more bums in the seat if it was not "sold out" due to scalpers. It's a shame that scalpers have taken away the opportunity for some families to come and watch a meaningful game at something affordable.

Thousands of people in the concourse plus tons in the CF area. I'm a ballpark pass holder and my seats are empty like 70 games a year. I give them away when I can and probably only make 6-8 games a year now that I moved a bit further from Toronto. I held onto them though since it wasn't a big investment and I could go to any game without worrying about the markup for big games. Went to three last week as an example.

This.

I was at the game on Friday and the 500 level looked half empty, when you go out to center field you soon find out why.

Everyone buys the 500 tickets for the price then head to center field to party.

That seems silly though why waste the money? Throw them on stub hub and you can get twice the price.

I have a pair of Friday(s) tix for the Red Sox and Rays games. Glad I got 'em early.

So I'm guessing a lot of people with 500 tickets just head down to the 200CF?

Another thing is that a lot of smokers I know buy additional 500 level tickets so they can go outside during the game and have a smoke, and reenter afterwards.

Lol that's a pretty extreme addiction if you can't curb it for a few hours with food beer and baseball. Buy an ecig and find a stall or something lol.

$10 to go out and have a smoke probably isn't a whole lot of money to somebody that pays for good seats. Lots of people buy a handful of beers at the game which is like $40, but I wouldn't consider that a severe alcohol addiction. Might even be able to get really cheap deals from a scalper after like the 5th inning. I'm sure they'd be happy to sell any leftover tickets for $5.
