Girardi said Tanaka would not travel to Toronto with the Yankees out of concerns he could further injure himself carrying his own luggage through customs, as is Canadian law.

Now I don't care whether Tanaka is with the team or not in Toronto, but what is the difference between "carrying his own luggage through customs" and carrying his own luggage to/from the airport in general? Why does the US media always have to make it sound like such a pain to travel to Canada?

The difference is he probably has people to carry his luggage to/from the airport, but needs to carry his own when going through customs.

That being said, if he's really in danger of injuring himself from carrying luggage, he really should stay at home.

LOL I carry my wife's and kids luggage all the time through customs so that's why I didnt understand the difference. I'd assume the team gets off the plane together, go through customs, then pick up their baggage before exiting the customs area..all together.. So I just didn't understand that if it was such a problem, they couldve just said, Tanaka didn't travel with the team because they didnt want him to carry luggage in general.

Wouldn't it be funny if the Yankees lost the division (or worse, missed the playoffs) because of the 1 game Tanaka could have won for them?

Anyway, luggage carrying is no joke. Steve Nash's career basically ended by carrying luggage...

Just goes to show how broken down a lot of these athletes really are. They may be able to perform at a high athletic level but a stiff wind would knock them out whereas a normal person would shrug it off.

That's all Girardi. He never misses an opportunity to slight the Blue Jays. When the man in white controversy broke, Girardi fueled it even more and even unofficially suggested that we stole signs. He's also taken a shot publicly at the state of our visitor's clubhouse and treatment facilities. Girardi may not be as brash or loud-mouthed as Showalter, but he's an *** towards the Blue Jays nonetheless.

Only in Toronto can a comment about carrying luggage be construed as anti-Canada conspiracy.

You guys are too much.

What worries me is the Yankees have a 4 games series at home vs the White Sox after which they realistically could sweep or at least win 3 of 4, so if they take 2 of 3 from the Jays here we could be in trouble.

The Yankees have completed three games into a run of 17 consecutive games. During that span they face the Bosox, the same team Jays just list 2 of 3.

The schedule isn't imbalanced in any way apart from home and road games left. But for an old team like the Yanks, 17 in a row to finish things are going to be tough.
