ALCS Game 1: Toronto @ Kansas City, Friday Oct, 16, 7:30 PM...Keep it Simple

We're the underdogs in this series. Royals made it to the WS last season and have an incredibly deep bullpen. Home field advantage is also in their favor. Tough series but we need to at least compete.

We are not the underdogs, that's ridiculous. It's not even close. Typical Raptor-board overreaction. What happened tonight is this: We lost a baseball game just like what happened 42.6% of the time in the regular season and against teams like the Phillies and the Braves. We heard similar sentiments after games one and two against the Rangers. Thankfully, the players have more cojones and self-belief than some of their fans.

Yeah, we've now lost 72 games this season, with most of the losses coming against teams much worse than the Royals. It happens...even to the best. Such is the nature of baseball.

that was a gong show. a little upset we couldnt get one freaking run. is edinson volquez THAT GOOD? but like i said before the game started, im not panicking. its a longer series and things will even out. lets just hope we come out swinging tomorrow though because we cant keep being down 0-2.

i have to say though its funny how baseball has taken over the city/country all of a sudden. i was out running my dog by the park and i saw some kids playing baseball on the grass. its cold outside and theyre playing baseball. up until today i had never seen that. kids are usually playing soccer or some **** there in the summer.

Seems like more than a bit of a reach there, KC celebrated exactly the same way (as does every other team that wins the ALDS). The Royals were just better today.

The Royals also didn't have to travel. Those hangovers are a lot easier to deal with when you don't have w flight to catch the next morning!

But in all seriousness they just looked flat and it does happen after huge, emotional wins like that. I didn't think Volquez was as sharp as people were giving him credit for. We made it far too easy on him especially when we go guys on base. When KC has 2 on and nobody out they WILL make it more difficult on us by moving runners over or stealing or making contact. It's different philosophies of baseball but at this point in the year and they type of park and weather that we faced yesterday, the get em and blast em home won't always work. Don't think we're going to get away with blowing 3-4 chances a game against a team like the Royals.

This is how it is in every big market. Toronto's media is a cuddly kitten compared to New York's. Guys not wanting to play in Toronto because of the media is completely isolated to hockey.

Agree that Volquez wasn't all that. 69 strikes and 42 balls thrown. Probably swung at a few that were balls too. They hit some balls hard but couldn't find the grass. The bats were the downfall last night. Not just two or three of them either. All of them stunk.

Tough loss. KC's pitching was lights out. Estrada did good too imo, it's tough when you don't get runs as a pitcher, hurts your confidence.

Game 2 is huge. Let's hope David Price is solid and the bats come alive. Cheers

... this is why I don't like people saying "we" when talking about their sports team as if they're a member of the team or something lol...

Either way lol.... there's no REAL underdog here... the more talented team is on the road.. but the KC Royals were a World Series team just last season while the Jays have really only been a playoff-bound team since July.

Who cares about the activity on this board. Quite frankly all the activity of the last 3 months makes me sick. I keep my eyes out for posts by the people I know are here, year in and year out. The rest is just noise.

Feelings on price tomorrow? He's going to be awesome. I really like this matchup with KC a heck of a lot more than Texas. I expect him to have an outstanding game.

Not sure what to expect of Ventura. He had a pretty awful year overal but finished off his last 4 or 5 starts of the year pretty damn good. He can be a bit erratic so we really need to make him work.

Volquez was hitting 97 and only missed his spots for balls and walks. Which doesn't kill you against our lineup. We kill mistakes in the strike zone, and that's what he avoided.

You don't walk out of that Game 5 and recover in 1 day. I was afraid of something like this. I remember how Donaldson mentioned how physically and mentally draining it was to play a game like that.

Let's hope they don't go home down 0-2. The Royals are not going to roll over like the Rangers did. If we fall into a big hole again, it's going to be a short series.

Betting odds surely don't think we are underdogs. Jays are favored to win by far.
