If Bautista is too prideful to move to 1B (which I still don't think is true), is it possible to move him to LF first? It's the least demanding outfield position and allows you to put a better defensive player in RF. The only problem is I'm not sure who would fill RF because I wouldn't want Revere there and I haven't seen enough of Saunders to get comfortable behind a Saunders/Pompey rotation out there. It's not something they would do for 2016, but something to keep in mind if you want to keep another 1B/DH option around into 2017.

Isn't LF and RF basically the same defensively except for the 3rd base throw, where having the strong arm in RF is preferable (and thus Baustista there).

Well the idea is that by 2017 Bautista's arm may not be the same as it is right now. Also, this is just from what I've noticed over the years, but RFs seem to need to be able to cover a lot more ground. With shifts in the OF playing guys to pull more, and the spin off the bat that normally takes a ball to RF along with the way a lot of stadiums are designed, I always got the sense you wanted a more mobile defender in RF.

Jose takes some terrible angles in RF.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
