Couple that with the trend of baseball ops chain of command shifting upward, where presidents become de facto GM who hire an AGM type to split duties, and it appears a similar picture is forming here. Seattle even had an FO guy Scott Servais go down to become their new manager. Perhaps unrelated, Boston hired Ruben Amaro as their 1B coach. Shapiro is a baseball guy to the bone and I think he's the new GM for all intents and purposes.

If that was the case though shouldn't we look to the relationship he had with Antonetti for 5 years before drawing the conclusion he accepted the job to be the GM here?

There were a lot of profit-side things that the Indians needed to undertake and he moved away from baseball ops to oversee that. Maybe now he has the baseball itch again? The dual executive model employed by Oakland, LAD, Boston, CHC, and others would allow him to work on both sides.

Exactly. I don't even know what a GM would do. Maybe suggest players or do the leg work? It sounds like a fun job, but I can see why AA would turn it down after all the responsibility he had up till now.

I would like to see someone from within the organization promoted. Lacava seems like the obvious choice.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Lacava would be a good choice. Assistant GM since 2002. He must be doing something right. Right?

He deserves a shot at the GM role.

I have a hard time seeing La Cava be the GM. Shapiro has all the reason now to go in the direction he wants and get his guy. I can see Atkins getting the gig.

I just hope Shapiro realizes that this team has to be built on not be demolished for future assets. We still have a 2-3 year window to be a contender, you cant take that away from us especially after AA leaving, fans are already pissed.

Id like to see either a new high end scout brought in to be GM and work with lacava and shapiro. Or Lacava promoted and a similar scout brought in to be asst gm.
How can their be controversy about how AA built this winner? Ive been reading that was a big reason why he left. He drafted some excellent prospects and all. But trading is how he made the team what it is. Signing free agents with impact could have put us in a way better situation. Imagine if we signed pitchers instead of all the prospects we threw at burley and dickey?
