Agreed. Janssen was so reliable. Always hit his spots. Storen does technically have a great slider, but it doesn't generate much interest... so its kind of a waste.

Janssen could command four pitches really well and he almost never left something over the middle of the plate. It made him really difficult to square up.

Storen's velocity on the FB being about 2 MPH below last year is not helping him right now.

the casey janssen comparison comes from the fact that hes a soft tosser that has some decent movement and offspeed stuff... but yeah, i liked casey janssen but a worse version of him is a guy that doesnt throw hard, doesnt have great command and gets hit a lot... and thats what storen is... i always thought storen was a power guy for some reason and am super disappointed at what ive seen... i feel like his nationals numbers are inflated pitching in the national league and that he wont be as successful up here, especially in the al east...

Storen threw 94 last year, so yeah, he is at least supposed to be somewhat of a power guy. If he doesn't have that velocity (92 so far), he probably won't be too successful. Doesn't have good enough movement, command or an assortment of other pitches to deal with any kind of real dropoff in that area.

I thought we got the better end of the revere deal but now that I'm watching storen pitch I can see why they so that trade straight up... This guy throws 92 max his slider is nice but he looks like a worse Casey Janssen.

Prime Casey Janssen was definitely better than Storen will ever be. After Henke and Ward, Janssen is right there among the best RPs in franchise history.

i think it just sweeps so much that its easy for guys to lay off... it doesnt have that late sharp last minute break and it isnt very hard, only 82 mph... so it looks pretty with all the movement, but its not really effective against hitters...

Every year we have a great bullpen, our starters absolutely stink. When our starters our good, our bullpen has a bad year. Last year was the only year those two elements met in the middle when it counted from August-October.

That's what baseball is about, trying to get all these team elements to click at once. The pitching is what is keeping us in games right now, and I fully expect them to regress just as the bats start to heat up. However, once everything regresses to the mean (elite hitting, average starting pitching, good bullpen) I think we will be right there.
