I still can't believe this is the best deal the Pirates could get to unload Liriano. They must have really had Hutch ranked high.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

With Liriano gone, pitching coach Ray Searage is able to speak a bit more freely about him now, which he did during a Tuesday appearance on “The Fan Morning Show.”

Searage said that Liriano put too much pressure on himself, and as his struggles worsened, that pressure eventually built up to the point where he couldn’t get back on track.

“Frankie has always cared about what he did out there on the mound,” Searage said. “And it just happened to snowball that, every time he went out there, he’d try to make up for the previous outing, or the previous inning, and things just got a little bit deeper and deeper for him.”

“The more he tried to get out of it, the more adverse results happened. So, it wasn’t from a lack of effort, that’s for sure. It’s just that he had trouble channeling it.”

I'm hoping that's true, but I think the external pressure on him will be greater in Toronto than in Pittsburgh.

only way we did more is if we would have completly sold what remained of the farm after AA thrashed it to pieces. He hit as often as he missed with trades. Miami and dickey were his biggest deals that were more then rentals. And his rentals were heavy over pays.

Wonder if liriano would make the shift to the pen.

Syndergaard for Dickey is one of the worst trades ever

It's obviously really bad, but the only reason I don't think it's one of the worst is that Dickey wasn't a rental and we've gotten 4 solid years out of him so far. A trade such as the Michael Young for Estaban Loaiza is much worse since we gave up years of a great player for less than a year of an okay player.

Also, I know Thor and Travis d'Arnaud have a few cheap years left, but they have combined for 9.5 WAR which is identical to what Dickey has given us. So at least to this point, it hasn't impacted our ability to win. The rest from here on out is gravy, though. And there's gonna be a lot of gravy.

Don't forget Becerra. He seems to be gaining traction as a legit prospect. If he pans out, this trade looks even worse than it already is.

4 years after the trade and he still isn't able to hit, even in single A. I wouldn't worry about him at this point. He's only 21 but he hasn't impressed at all. Might be a utility infielder for a year or two, but it doesn't look like we're missing much with him when guys like Darwin Barney and Cliff Pennington come dirt cheap.
