Jonathan Papelbon Released by Nats
Interesting name on the open market. Ye, the memories of Drew Storen make me feel that the Jays should just walk away. Don't even think of signing this bum. Not to mention he is a cancer.
Though, there's also the fact that he can be signed for the minimum right now. At that price and considering the upside, it's intreaguing.
Boston is rumored to be interested in signing him up. They are the favorites to get a deal done with him. I doubt the Jays go that route.
Thoughts?

Jose, Edwin and Josh don't always run out grounders. Not sure that having nutjob on the team would go over well.

I'd take a shot, if he's a problem do what the nationals did and cut him. It'll cost donuts to sign him.

We already watched Grilli and Beniot turn into stoppers after they couldn't get anyone out with their previous team. I wouldn't be against this at all

After another blown save from Casilla, I expect that the giants will make a push for him.

Benoit has as many walks as he does strikeouts since we picked him up. Even with a .217 BABIP he's got a 1.41 WHIP in 8 games. I'd say he has another week or two with the team before he's thrown back on the scrap heap. To be honest, I'd have rather taken our chances with Storen, although he's not looking any better right now. As for Papelbon: no thanks. Let him be somebody else's problem. I'm not a big believer in attitude affecting performance, but if anybody could ruin a clubhouse, it'd be this guy, and he's not nearly good enough to justify it.

Do not want he is a massive headcase. I don't think he is worth taking on right now.

Storen isn't walking as many batters but still getting hit hard. Meanwhile Benoit hasn't given up a earned run yet and has a lower FIP. Most of Benoit's troubles come from bad splits in seattle vs other parks this year. THe walks were up there for Grilli too before we acquired him. I'll take Benoit over Storen any day.

Re: Jonathan Papelbon Released by Nats
I'm sure this would go over massively well in our clubhouse:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dc-sports-bog/wp/2016/08/13/jonathan-papelbons-acquisition-was-a-mistake-nats-fans-saw-coming/
Now maybe players don’t, or shouldn’t, care whether the home fans like them. If a Nationals player did care, though, he probably wouldn’t have wanted to wear a T-shirt reading “Obama can’t ban these guns” to his let’s-make-amends spring training news conference. Nor would he have, on multiple occasions, played a political anthem while reporters were inside the Nats clubhouse.
The ditty was called “Vote For Trump,” and it included promises that “the wall will get built by Mexico” and that Trump would “bring back country [and] get rid of rap,” also noting that “if you don’t like it you can all just kiss our ass.”

Papelbon seems like a screwjob. He can go hang out with Tim Thomas.

It's been a month. I'll take a high BABIP over a high BB-rate and non-existent K-rate any day. Both of them are probably useless, but Benoit seems to be more of a lost cause.

I thought Storan was very unlucky while he pitched here but ERA is still the barometer that most fans watching the games will still see first.
With Benoit, I've noticed some bad luck as well. He had a missed out/safe call at first one game and he seems to be getting consistantly squeezed by the umps on what should be strike 3 and ends up ultimately being a BB. Just opinion on my part but when we're talking about a small sample size, 4-5 extra outs including some K's are the difference between looking good and looking blah.

Without robot umps, how do you rationalize that you can clearly differentiate balls/strikes?
I suffer to discern all these complaints, like they're experts.
Let me know if you could do better than MLB trained umpires.
