I'd actually be fine with a scoring rule change where there is no loss put on a pitcher who doesn't allow a walk, a hit or throw a wild pitch.

I agree it was a spectacular play but look at Pillar's swing. Way out of the strike zone. Lucky he got good wood on it. I don't know if anyone noticed this, but at one point during this AB the camera panned out to show the bench with Edwin, Carrera and Bautista. They were all laughing. Why make it so difficult Pillar? Be patient. Look for your pitch and swing. If not, take the damn walk! Pillar (with his speed) would have 30 to 40 steals by now if he was more patient at the plate and he took more BB's.

Pillar is who he is. A free swinger who defied all odds to make the majors. He's neither patient nor has a good eye and that won't change but he is a good bad ball hitter. Some players just don't recognize pitches as well as other. Travis is the exact same as Piller only a better hitter for average.

Yet one is slashing .306/.337/.456/.340 with a wRC+ of 111 while the other is batting .266/.302/.380/.296 with an 81 wRC+
you are understating how much better Devon Travis is at the plate, to say the least.

Did you miss the part where I said Travis was a better hitter?

We were speaking about plate discipline not hitting ability. Swinging at bad pitches etc.. . Travis, God bless him, just took his first BB as the Jays leadoff hitter earlier this week. Neither of them take very many walks and both swing a lot of bad pitches. Of course Travis is the better hitter, but he's equally as impatient.

Last year the Jays had Donaldson and Edwin tied for first in AL sac flies. This season noone in top 10.

MLB active sac fly leaders

Bautista 35th with 50
Edwin 37th with 49
Upton 47th with 44
Tulo 53rd with 42
Martin 73rd with 34
Navarro 97th with 29

The inability to get runners home (especially RISP) almost cost us the Texas series and did cost us the KC series where we were probably about 4 for 40 with RISP in the four losses.

This team from management, to coaches to players has done nothing to address this obviously glaring weakness. If we succeed 5% more of the time in those situations we'd be neck and neck with the Red Sox instead of having our entire season come down to one game and even that is still up in the air.

It's seriously so ridiculously frustrating to watch this team botch fundamental baseball left and right.

Not sure what's bothering me more lately... the RISP/LOB conundrum or the errors/bad defensive plays that should be errors.

" Travis is the exact same as Pillar only a better hitter for average" Travis is a better hitter for average and power and has a higher OBP. Pillar is terrible at the plate, so being "only a better hitter for average" is still a damn bad hitter, which Travis is not. So no, I'm not missing anything.

Since i clearly wrote that Travis was a better hitter, i have no clue what point you're trying to make. You just appear to have misunderstood my point.

Awesome post, guessing you weren't watching?

i was watching just fine, he made a great throw to 3rd and once again our MVP seemed to screw up in the most important part of the season

am i not allowed to see the irony that we lose in the inning that dickey is pitching? whether he pitches well or not...

you guys are hilarious

Might as well blame this game on Bill Madlock. It would be just as relevant.

You clearly were not watching because Goins was the player that threw the ball to 3rd that JD booted.

Blaming Dickey (or finding irony?) because he happened to be pitching when JD blew the game is like blaming your wife for getting hit when she's stopped at a red light and some drunk careened into her.

But go ahead and dig your hole deeper.

Lol actually ur right watching the replay, but to be fair, Dickey was right next to Goins on that play.

Don't talk about my wife, or you'll get slapped.

Josh Donaldson called MLB- "The Get It Done League" in his own words last year. He has been struggling offensively and defensively this month. He needs to follow his own advice and start getting it done.

Of the first 7 pitches 6 were out of the strike zone. If he was a more patient hitter, he would have worked the count and looked for a good pitch to hit, or taken the walk instead. Such a frustrating player to watch!!

Such a tough loss. We should have had this game.

can't blame him on a hard hit ball.

i had more of an issue with carrera bunting cause you're just giving the mariners a free out. You already have speed at 2nd a base hit would most likely have cashed the runner. dunno why fans cheered and thought it was good baseball.

of course ee/joey were laughing pillar swings at balls near his head its comical.

He's been struggling for sure. Everyone likes to point to all the problems we're currently having with various aspects of the team but JD healthy and playing at his normal, MVP type level could have added 2-3 wins this month alone.

I used it as an anology, nothing more. I didn't think anyone who lied or paid so little attention to detail could get or remain married! Don't be an Internet tough guy over a clearly innocuous comment.
