Blue Jays Lead AL in Attendance at 3.39 Million

Post#1 » by Lateral Quicks » Thu Oct 6, 2016 1:19 pm

The Jays had an average attendance of 41,851 this year, or 3.39 million total. That was good for first in the AL by a large margin. The second place Yankees came in at 3.06 million. Only the Dodgers and Cardinals had a higher attendance.

I knew it was a good year attendance wise, but didn't realize it was quite so good. The dollar continues to suck which is unfortunate, but even still I'd have to think this was a very good year financially for the Blue Jays/Sportsnet. Add in some playoff revenue, and it's that much better. Let's see what it all means for next year.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

The dollar sucks, but I think we charge one of the highest ticket prices in the league. This isn't very scientific, but looking at Stub Hub you can get seats to the ALDS in Texas for like $10. Cheapest price for Game 3 in Toronto is $105 for a nosebleed seat. Even if we convert to USD I think we'd still rank pretty high as far as gate revenue.

Not sure how credible this is but:

Seems reasonable.

OK looks to me like the Jays need a minimum 20% increase in prices, if just to compensate for tanking dollar. Perhaps even a 33% increase.
I would rather cheer them on from my couch (and not afford to go) than not go to a losing product (and be able to afford to go).

Also how much can Rogers Stadium seat in comparision to other high AL teams?
