Don't get me wrong, it's a no brainer decision to leave him off, and one I would have made too, but being at or near the end of his career you know he must not be happy. My criticism has always been of his on-field performance and how he was acquired, not him as a human being. He seems like a decent man and he's definitely gone through some rough times.
His career with the Jays is over, but he may yet sign on with a national league team next year. It would have to be one with a catcher capable of catching the knuckler though, because no team is going to allow him a personal catcher at this stage.
Honestly, given that Feldman is here to pitch in garbage time, Dickey should have been on the roster over him. Feldman was a tire fire in Toronto.
Having a knuckleballer in the bullpen just isn't feasible because you don't know if he's going to come in and throw strikes or not and there's an increased likelihood of passed balls and wild pitches. Especially without his personal catcher. That said, Feldman hasn't been very good.
I'm thinking of it more along the lines that Feldman is only coming into a game where the Jays are down 10-0. In that situation you don't really have to worry about throwing strikes, just getting through innings to rest your actual relievers. I think there is a pretty solid chance Feldman doesn't throw a single pitch for the Jays in the postseason. So to me it's more of a ceremonial position I would be giving to Dickey rather than expecting him to actually pitch.
