I know that Rogers Centre has at least one alcohol free section in the 500 level - maybe there should be other sections as well?

I never understood people getting smashed at a sporting event, let alone a playoff game. I get that alochol can liven up the experience, especially if you're just watching a random regular season game. But a playoff game is intense enough. If you wanna get lit, just go to a bar or do it from the comfort of your own home.

I was at a Jays game with a large work related group this summer. I normally have one beer or no beers at Jays/Raptors games and that night I got pretty drunk. Of course that included a few drinks at dinner before the game and a lot of free beers at the game.

Other than that, some people aren't real fans and are a the game to drink and others might have drinking problems. I wouldn't be surprised if Pagen was in that last group but obviously that's complete speculation.

Yeah, if you're going to be drunk at a sporting event, at least have some idea of what you're like when you are drunk before depositing yourself in a large crowd. Are you a particularly impulsive drunk? An angry drunk? Tend to get falling-down smashed? Being shoulder-to-shoulder with 50,000 people in a highly-charged atmosphere probably isn't going to do you any favours.

I Usually go to one Bills game every season. It starts at 9 am with tailgating which is huge at Bills games at you know. For a 1 pm game, its bad enough. You see how many people get tossed during those games. A buddy of mine who is a Pats fan went to a Sunday/8 pm game with his 10 year old son once and said thst he said the crowd was ridiculous and they were scared that violence was going to break out over the Pats jerseys they were wearing. They left in the 3rd quarter.

I don't expect them to ever change in Buffalo because unfortunately there are more people at the games for the party than the game itself.

Well, when your team hasn't been to the playoffs since '99 there's not much to look forward to except the party.

Agreed, when I go to games at the most I have a buzz but I am never completely smashed. What's even the point then? I still want to be able to enjoy and understand the game, and retain some memories the next day. Plus, who can even afford to get smashed at the game with expensive beer? I suppose people like that just pre-drink a crap ton.

Not making excuses for drunks but not that many people are disciplined. Sure you might plan to have 1 beer, but with friends 1 turns into 2, 2 into 3, 3 into 4 etc, and when its the playoffs, you will most likely want to drink more to enjoy the moment. It's the culture, nothing really new about this. You just have to be predrunk to pay those stupid ass prices for beers and people will still do it even when they're sober.

If you want disciplined behavior limit alcohol sales to 1 beer per seat, but that will hurt the team's revenues so i dont see it happening anytime soon
Google "Hind Rajab"
Total Killed by Israel = 50,000+
Israel kills a child every 45 minutes and ban aid workers from bringing in baby formula
Total being starved by Israel = 500,000 -1,000,000

Speak up

I don't know what kind of real sports fan has to drink 4 beers to "enjoy the moment". I've gone to a bar or a buddy's home plenty of times AFTER a game to get my drink on, but I've always been responsible at the live event itself (and it has little to do with cost, as I can easily pre-drink if I wanted). Sporting venues should NOT limit alcohol sales, though. Unless somebody is doing something stupid like throwing things onto the field, the responsibility should lie on the adult (and I use that term loosely).

Do you honestly not know? Alcohol can add enjoyment to almost anything for many people. Imagine saying "who goes out with 5 of their best friends and has to drink 4 beers? Do you even really like those people?!". Sure, you might like being with them when you're sober, but it's just better when you're not. I say this as a mostly non-drinker and I don't drink at Jays games, but come on, that's a really poor "no true Scotsman" argument.

I go out with friends for all kinds of activities. When we're at the ACC or Rogers Centre, the event is the activity. When we go to a bar, drinking IS the activity. There's a big difference.

But to expect 50,000 people to have the exact same view as you do isn't realistic. Especially when alcohol is being served at sporting events.

Another example is golf. I generally don't drink when I golf, to me that is the activity, but I know many people who do play and drink. And obviously the clubs do make alcohol available on the course.

Your points are very valid. I'm not trying to be preachy at all. To me, it's whatever floats your boat, as long as you don't put others in harm's way. Hell, I don't understand why country music is so popular, but I'm not wanting to put a stop to it lol.

We could definitely bond over our distaste for Country Music.

I still think the appropriate punishment should be Baltimore gets to have a player of their choosing throw a baseball at him followed by a stupid "brawl" where grown men in pajamas jump up and down and pretend that they wouldn't get beaten up by a junior high boxer.

Wow. A bunch of goody-goods in this thread :P

I guess I'm the only one that gets belligerently drunk at sporting events.

If you can control your alcohol and if that's how you enjoy your sporting events then more power to you, but a lot of idiots can't and that's where the problems start.

People are more outraged over this than they are over serious world issues
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Ken Pagan is no longer working at Postmedia.

A Postmedia employee charged with one count of mischief after allegedly tossing a beer can outfield during a Toronto Blue Jays game on Oct. 4 has left the media company.

Ken Pagan, 41, was an employee at Postmedia Network Inc. in Hamilton. An online profile listed him as a sports copy editor.
Postmedia spokesperson Georgia Sourtzis confirmed on Monday that Pagan had left the company.

“As you can understand, we do not discuss HR-related details with the public,” she told the Star. Sourtzis would not elaborate on the circumstances of Pagan’s departure.

Phyllise Gelfand, vice-president of communications at Postmedia, told the Star on Oct. 5 that the company was “conducting an internal investigation” following the beer-tossing incident.
